Time to Move On

September 14, 2009 -

Hey, I've got something to share with you:

Today is my last day as editor of GamePolitics.

Although the public announcement may seem sudden, the decision to move on is one that I've been considering for some time. While I'm enormously proud of GamePolitics, after four-plus years of continuous coverage of a tightly-focused news genre, my heart tells me that I've said all that I can say about the intersection of video games and politics.

I let ECA president Hal Halpin know of my decision last month and I'm grateful that Hal - as always - has been supportive. My departure also means, of course, that GP will have a new editor. We'll have that announcement in a separate post today. As for me, I've made the decision to step away from journalism and will be moving into another opportunity.

While there will be days on which I miss the daily challenge of editing GamePolitics, I am quite certain that I will miss the community of GP readers even more. Some of you have been around since the earliest days of the site. It has always been your passion about video games and your interest in the politics surrounding the medium that energized GamePolitics and made it one of the most unique destinations on the web.

Play on.

Re: Time to Move On

Sooooo Jack won?

Seriously, good luck Dennis. Hope to see you pop in once or twice.

Re: Time to Move On

Cure you Jack Thompson!!!!

All jokes aside, we will miss you Dennis. If you are heading into politics, please let use know so we can vote for you.

Re: Time to Move On

Thompson may be beyond being cured, he's a special kind of crazy.

Good luck in the future.

Re: Time to Move On

Well Mr. McCauley, I wish you godspeed in all your future endeavors.

Re: Time to Move On

Wow. I am sorry to see you go. I wish you luck in your ne endeavor. The site won't quite be the same without you but i hope it doesn't lose anything.

I can't wait for the John Bruce press release where he lists you with 2 Live Crew and Howard Stern as porn to kid businesses that he has shut down.

Noooooooo!

Re: Time to Move On

Well, that's bit of a bummer for the GP readers, I think, but as someone who also recently changed course, I can certainly understand.

Good luck Dennis! Don't be a stranger...you know, you can still write here, even if in comments :)

Re: Time to Move On

Thanks for never giving a hard time.

Re: Time to Move On

It's sad to see you go after so many great years GP, but there comes a time when we have to chose the path we want to follow.

Best of luck to you, and be sure to stop by now and then to say hi. The place just wouldn't be the same without you.

Wow...

Good luck, Dennis.

Re: Time to Move On

Say it ain't so GP! ;_;

Well, good luck with your next endeavor, I have to say that you are the gaming journalist I respect most!

Re: Time to Move On

I didnt see this one coming. Anyway mate, best of luck to you and we appreciate all the work you have done on this site over the years.

Re: Time to Move On

Total shock to me, but everyone moves on eventually I suppose. You've been a great editor (well, the only editor) that has kept this site as interesting and informational as it is fun and informational.

Best of luck in your new career, and thank you. Without you, I wouldn't know nearly as much about gaming politics as I do today.

Re: Time to Move On

That's a bit of a surprise, but good luck.

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Hornets, Jack Thompson can geaux chase a chupacabra.

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Pelicans. Solidarity for the Saints = No retreat, no surrender. 2013 = Saints' revenge on the NFL. Even through the darkest days, this fire burns always.

Re: Time to Move On

Well, I guess the only thing I can say is I prefer the devil I know to the devil I don't. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Re: Time to Move On

Good luck and stuff with the future.

"...will be moving into another opportunity."

So is this something that anyone from ANY state can vote for you on or just your city/state?  :)

Good luck with whatever it may be, Dennis.

P.S.  Set him loose for today.  I wanna see his ramble.  Not that I can't already guess.  But just one day of hilarity.  Pleeeeeeeease?

Re: Time to Move On

Oh, that would be bad. And yet, strangely, funny at the same time.

Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors, Dennis.  It's been a hell of a lot of fun.  GP won't be the same without you.

Andrew EisenMichael Chandra - Unless I overlooked it, we haven't seen how the directive to not talk about whatever he wasn't supposed to talk about was phrased so it’s hard to say if it could have been misconstrued as a suggestion or not.10/20/2014 - 12:35pm
Andrew EisenHey, the second to last link is the relevant one! He actually did say "let them suffer." Although, he didn't say it to the other person he was bickering with.10/20/2014 - 12:29pm

Neo_DrKefkaThat is correct in an At-Will state you or the employer can part ways at any time. However Florida also has laws on the books about "Wrongful combinations against workers" http://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2012/448.04510/20/2014 - 10:07am
james_fudgehe'd die if he couldn't talk about Wii U :)10/20/2014 - 9:16am

Michael ChandraIf GP goes "EZK, do not talk about X publicly for a week, we're preparing a big article on it" and he still tweets about X, they'd have a legitimate reason to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 8:52am
Michael ChandraIf GP tells Andrew "we'd kinda prefer it if you stopped talking about Wii-U for 1 week" and he'd tweet about it anyway, firing him for it would be idiotic.10/20/2014 - 8:51am
Michael ChandraLegal right, sure. But that doesn't make it any less pathetic of an excuse.10/20/2014 - 8:50am
ZippyDSMleeYou mean right to fire states.10/20/2014 - 8:50am
james_fudgesome states have "at will" employee laws10/20/2014 - 7:50am
quiknkoldIt says in the article that being in florida, you can get fired regardless if its a fireable offence10/20/2014 - 7:19am
Michael ChandraIf your employee respectfully disagrees with your advice, that's not a fireable offense. If they ignore your order, THEN you have the right to be pissed.10/20/2014 - 6:49am
Michael ChandraI... Don't get one thing. If you do not want your employee to do X, why do you tell them it's advice or a wish? Give them a damn order.10/20/2014 - 6:48am
