ECA Supports FCC's Position on Net Neutrality

September 22, 2009

Count the Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) among those who back the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) stance and newly added principles on net neutrality.

Noting that the ECA is “delighted” with FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski’s “aggressive stance,” the ECA’s Vice President and General Counsel Jennifer Mercurio commented:

Increasingly, Americans spend much more time on the Internet – they take care of business and pursue their hobbies, like playing video games, all of which fuel our economy, and they should not be penalized for it.

To advance the cause of net neutrality, the ECA has added an action item to its website that allows users to email their Representative or Senators in support of the FCC’s position.

So in that picture, is GamePolitics the Pitcher (White dog) or the Catcher (Brown dog)? I'm thinking Brown Dog.

Re: ECA Supports FCC's Position on Net Neutrality

I think they should only be allowed toshape traffic where the result is 30% from the stated speed on the plan rate.

This way they have some wiggle room and can always offer a faster plan for more money. Currently they are giving away speed when they should lock down and sale it for 10$ every 400KBPS and offer a basic conectivty plan that gets you 200-400kBps for 10-15$ a month. One of the reasons they are suffering from bandwidth issues is becuse they are giving away to much for to little.

And yes they could upgrade thier infrastruture soem but that horse has left town......after robbing it blind....

Re: ECA Supports FCC's Position on Net Neutrality

I'm still confused on what Net Neutrality is. Can someone fill me in?

Re: ECA Supports FCC's Position on Net Neutrality

I wish it were the reason given above, cause that's a debate I'd love to watch in DC.  And to that I add what about dogs with spots?

Net Neutrality is the principle that content over the internet is delivered equally.  It prevents an Internet Service Provider from slowing down a website or service or outright blocking them.

In a non-neutral internet your ISP could demand money from websites to deliver their content at certain speed, or charge you more for playing video games online or block their competitors website or services.

Re: ECA Supports FCC's Position on Net Neutrality

Not to mention people could, and likely would begin bullying or attempting to bribe ISPs into hampering or blocking content they don't like or just disaggree with.

In fact during elections I could imagine candidates payign off ISPs to hamper traffick to their opponent's site.

Re: ECA Supports FCC's Position on Net Neutrality

Too bad we have nothing even remotely close to it in the UK.

Perhaps, but you won't find a plate of decent laverbread and cockles in the States, either.

I wouldn't eat them over here neither. That stuffs for commoners. Or cockneys, which is much the same thing.

Specially considering 'Cockney' is about where you are born, not where you live ;)

In a nutshell, it's internet access that's free of restrictions on where you go, what you do, who you connect with and why.

Thanks a lot for ruining a perfectly good line of bullshit.

Didn't you see the photograph? It's a proposed federal law requiring that every time a white chihuahua is depicted on the Internet, a brown chihuahua be given equal space.

Re: ECA Supports FCC's Position on Net Neutrality

I'd think it was a cute picture if I didnt know that Chihuahuas are the most evil, spiteful breed of dog on the planet who'd gnaw your ankles off at the first chance >.<
