No matter how much we try to avoid Jack, he just keeps doing things that make you raise your eyebrows, scratch your head and say "What?"
In an apparent case of pot vs. kettle, Jack Thompson has filed a complaint against Orlando City Attorney Maryanne Downs for making a disparaging remark about a judge on her personal blog, according to an item in the Orlando Sentinel. Downs also happens to be president-elect of the Florida Bar, the body that disbarred Thompson from practicing law last year.
According to the Sentinel:
According to Thompson, Downs linked to a column written by Orlando Sentinel talk-about-town columnist Scott Maxwell that was critical of Gov. Charlie Crist's judicial appointment of Michael Rudisill. On her blog, Downs described the column as "a thoughtful (and cogently written) story about another political hack being appointed to the bench by Governor Crist, possible because of the changes to our judicial nominating system back in 2001.”
Thompson has been known to blast anyone that remotely disagrees with him, including judges. His complaint against Downs was sent to the Florida Bar on Sept. 23.

Is anyone surprised any more? It's like JT is trying to get the high score of greatest hypocrite ever.
Actually, I see the glimmerings of a plan here, although it's probably giving JT too much credit.
He's trying to get a precedent set so he can use it to his advantage.
He has actually been doing this for a while.
There was another blog he was active on (till he got banned), I think it was called Jaablog or something. Anyway, there was another case there were a lawyer made dispariaging remarks about a judge and thompson stepped in to file a complaint in order to try to 'force' the bars hand and demonstrate that they were overstepping their authority, trampling 1st ammendment rights, and more importantly punishing him more then other people.
He filed a Bar complaint against President Bill Clinton. And Mark Gregaros (Michael Jackson's attorney). And David Boise (Al Gore's attorney in Bush v. Gore). And Miami Rumpole (even though he had no idea of the true identity or occupation of Miami Rumpole). And etc., etc., etc., etc. He's filed more Bar complaints in his lifetime than he's filed 1040s with the IRS.

As for Thompson's actions, really, does this come as a surprise? He does so love his smear campaigns. I'd not be surprised to find out that his filing contained many inaccuracies and maybe even some gay porn.

Apart from this being about Thompson, how exactly does it relate to gaming in any way? What next, a story on his bowel movements?

Actually, Game Politics usually has a story for when he speaks publicly.
I can imagine the Court office reading this.
"Oh look in the paper...Jack is in the news again." Then continue to reading it. A look of shock, amusement, and then loud obnoxious laughter shall fill the room for at least 5 minutes.
"Dear god...he is serious? Oh well this is going to be good."
Seriously though, she made a comment on an article on being well written and informative. As well as mentioned the word hack. Disparaging remarks how ever? Jack, the pot is calling your kettle. Psssst it is also black, mate.
He accused Judge Dava Tunis of bribery, corruption, anti-religious, anti-american, and conspiring to personally attack him. She didn't bat an eye and proceeded with his discipline hearing. Somehow I think Jack knows this won't fly and try to use his defeat as a stand saying something bizzare like :
"I was disbarred for saying bad things at a Judge, and the Bar President got away with it even after I blew the whistle. I even blew the whistle on the video game industry on 60 minutes...(blah blah blah) -insert usual rhetoric-"
Just wait. He's not done, yet. His next move is to claim that the Bar can't investigate its own President-Elect and demand that the U.S. Congress therefore appoint a Special Counsel for that purpose.

Such was my initial reaction when I saw this story. I love the image, and I guess some humor is needed, but honestly Jack has gone as far as he can possibly go by now and I'm ready to see him locked up. So here's hoping he sticks to his October 1st promise and ends up being forcibly removed from the picture.

Basically it seems that jackie is trying to claim that this blogged "insult" was as bad, if not worse than anything he ever did/said (remember this IS jackie, ie he did no wrong) so she should be pulled down while he is raised up as the whistleblower and protector of the name of the Bar. Mind you, this is the same Bar which he publically posted several times that he hated and would defeat but nevermind.
This is fairly bright and has potential except that this is jackie we are talking about. The master of foot in mouth.

Here's worse news for JT:
JT announced that he's going to resume practicing law as of today, notwithstanding the whole "disbarment" thing. According to Florida's lawyer-regulation rules, the unlicensed practice of law is punishable by up to five months in jail. And according to the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, JT would have at least a 13% chance of being raped--likely repeatedly--while there.
I know. It's considered impolite to wish that someone gets brutally raped by a giant skinhead with hepatitis. But really, it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.
