Facebook Getting Civilized

October 21, 2009

One of the videogame industry’s most respected and revered game designers and franchises can resist the lure of social network websites no more.

Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development for Firaxis Games, revealed on the Civ Fanatics forums (thanks ShackNews) today that a version of Civilization will be heading to Facebook. Civilization Network will feature the ability to play solo or to team up with other players in a cooperative mode and will be free to play.

The full game is expected to launch in 2010, with a closed beta coming soon. To follow the progress and for more news on the title, a Facebook fanpage has been setup.

Re: Facebook Getting Civilized

As long as there's not a profile update option whenever you ****ing do anything in Civ.

Magic is playing Civilization! His Romans have researched Pottery!
Magic is playing Civilization! His Romans have captured Berlin!

I hate the quiz updates people do on it. Otherwise, this could be freaking awesome.

Dang it... I had avoided facebook apps for so long...

But I love Civilization games...

Re: Facebook Getting Civilized

But what if Jack-O collects his $120 million from Facebook? Will that scuttle this plan? And Facebook as we know it?

Re: Facebook Getting Civilized

Heh, I suspect we'll see the case dropped soon to be honest, he's had his obligatory 15 minutes of fame for it, he's probably already off looking for someone else to do that will get his name in print ;)

Remember the Halo 3 fiasco? That, more than anything, proved to me that Thompson was picking his targets not for offensiveness, but for the amount of attention they'd bring to him personally in the Media, he never continues, because he knows he doesn't have a case, but simply announcing the suit means he gets to mentally masturbate to his name.

Re: Facebook Getting Civilized

I don't remember the Halo 3 fiasco, in fact, I forgot it completely until now. but then again, that may be your point ;)

ZenI felt Brutal Legends was a funny & beautiful look at the world of rock from Double Fines point of view. The only parts I wasn't hot for were the RTS bits as it felt forced. Otherwise fantastic.02/12/2012 - 1:34pm
DorthLousPassed 1.5M$. And I'd also say that Brutal Legend is far from being a bad game. I just think it was a few levels under what people expected from the people working on the project.02/11/2012 - 8:25am
TechnogeekBrutal Legend wasn't bad so much as "marketing had no idea how the game actually played", causing it to suffer accordingly.02/10/2012 - 10:38pm

ddrfr33kHas anything Tim Schafer ever made been of crap caliber? I'm struggling to think of one...02/10/2012 - 7:37pm
GuamishI think it is in good hands. Tim did a game for the GDC award show and that was fun for how short it was.02/10/2012 - 12:22pm
