PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

November 12, 2009

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has launched a browser-based Flash game to call attention to what the group calls “outdated killing methods” utilized by the McDonald’s fast-food chain.

Super Chick Sisters is a Super Mario-like five level game that has players attempting to rescue Princess Pam (Pamela Anderson) who has been kidnapped by the Evil Ronald McDonald. Information from PETA’s campaign against McDonald’s is sprinkled throughout, for example a chick tells your character, “Chickens who are killed by McDonald’s suppliers have their throats cut while they are still alive. You must save them from this cruelty!”

A kid-friendly version is available as well.

PETA notes that:

McDonald's American suppliers are under fire for using an outdated killing method that often causes birds to suffer the pain of broken wings and broken legs, to have their throats cut while they are still conscious, and to be scalded to death in defeathering tanks.

PETA is urging McDonald’s U.S. suppliers to adopt a more humane killing method that is being used in Europe.

Sounds exactly like the way my family killed our chickens when I was growing up. The only difference is the chickens were already dead when we dipped them in boiling water to help remove the feathers.

if they can tell me a more "humane" way of slaughtering chickens maybe I could take it for a test spin.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

I'll take PETA seriously when they talk about being more humane to animals when they kill fewer dogs and cats.  Until then, they're still a filthy bunch of two-faced liars and hypocrites.

EDIT

Oh, and they also support terrorism and terrorists.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Quoted for truth.

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Hornets, Jack Thompson can geaux chase a chupacabra.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

It makes sense when terrorists support terrorists.

When Jack Thompson runs his mouth, does anyone really care what he has to say anymore?

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

You forgot to mention that they are first class hypocrites. I call for the FBI to change PETAs status from non-profit to Hate group. Yup, they fit very well on a list full of Nazi groups, KKK branches, anti-goverment groups and eco-terrorists.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

I remember being told about a group of PETA members beating a scientist to death in the streets once, and that when asked about it the local PETA branch said that he deserved to die and that his life was less important than a rat's.

I don't know if its true, but from other stuff that I've seen PETA do and heard them say, I'll believe that it is until proven otherwise. I mean, if it was up to them, anyone that ever even mentioned owning a pet as a good thing would be taken outside and shot. They're more open to human slavery than they are to owning a dog.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

I'm no fan of PETA, but you can't just go around telling stories that you haven't verified. Not cool. That is exactly the same as all those news agencies who reported that Mass Effect contained "Virtual porn". When later questioned about it the reported revealed that she hadn't actually seen the clip but was just repeating what had been told to her.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Unruly doesn't look like an organisation that fought for their right to lie to people.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

PETA is very well know for condoning violence against researchers and their labs. Also PETA has provided legal support to very well known eco-terrorists. The Mass Effect story cannot be applied on this case since you just need a couple of minutes on google to read about PETA's antics.

If anyone REALLY wants to help animals It'd better to pledge a donation to SPCA instead of the radical lunatics from PETA and HSUS.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

While true, you still shouldn't spread unverified stories... just stick to the verified stories; there's enough dirt to condemn them

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

its prob true, i mean these are the people that freaked when cops shot a chimpanzee after i mauled a woman (ripping her face off) and attempted to attack two officers still in their vehicle.

those officers and the womans life meant nothing compared to the chimp?

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

They acually used the term sea kittne in the game. World 2 has underwater sections and a fish talks about sea kittens.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

I'm going to stephen colbert's cue and start talking about eating 'land fish' if they're seriously going to keep up this sea kitten crap.

Debates are like merry go rounds. Two people take their positions then they go through the same points over and over and over again. Then when it's over they have the same positions they started in.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Oh PETA you want us to take you seriously, but how can we when you do such stuipid stuff?

BTW I'm all for the better treatment of animals but these people are just crazy.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

This coming from people that kills animals so they won;t become pets. Im surprised noone take a bug stand against peta.

“outdated killing methods”

Sooooo... killing 'em is ok.  As long as you do it with up-to-date killing methods?

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

While I do not agree with PETA as an organization, I admit I am in favor of slaughtering methods that are at least humane.  Whlie in the end they still end up dead, there is a huge differnce between 'quick death' and 'slow painful death'.  In the past the later was justified with 'well, animals do not actually feel pain anyway' which is now known not to be true.

Now it has moved into more of a 'well, they do not have souls so it does not matter' or 'only commie faggy woman like liberals care, so XYZ does not!' argument.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Or, you know, fuck the animals, let's make as much food to feed as many people as we can.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

I did not know you were bent that way.  Good to know.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

If it's between animals suffering a bit or people being able to get a cheap meal, I know which one I prefer.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Do any serious research in to it, and you'll find that it isn't suffering "a bit", there are some really disgusting methods.

Some practices aren't even sanitary (or that cost effective) versus other methods as touched on by some fellow classmate's research project.

Not to mention i don't think it kill us to implement some slightly humane regulations as due respect to a creature whose life we take for survival, which is one thing i think some ancient cultures like the Native Americans (in general) really got right.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Cut any animals throat (humans included) without hitting the spinal cord and there is no pain for a few seconds. The pain is technically there, but the sensation isn't painful until the brain processes it, however, given the poor nervous system chickens have when processing this data, they actually bleed to death before they can experience any actual pain. Just ripping their heads off or a quick chop to the neck with an axe actually causes more pain (even if it is literally less than a second long).

Think of a paper cut, or the last time you got a good slice on you. You know you got hurt, but it doesn't hurt right away. Later it does, but for these animals, there is no later.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Uh...I believe this game is fairly old. I remember playing it several years ago.

I personally agree that using torturous methods to kill our food is inhumane and immoral, but PETA just goes freaking overboard with everything. (I personally think that hunting an animal that has lived free its whole life is far more humane than raising domesticated animals in cramped cages/small lawns only to kill them without them ever knowing freedom, but that's just me).

-Optimum est pati quod emendare non possis-It is best to endure what you cannot change-

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

In PETA's mind the only way to be humane is to never kill animals at all, even if you're starving, unless you're them, then it's ok to kill animal to prevent them from going to a possible loving home.

And my dog has known freedom. He's escaped several times already and always comes home.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

That was the old Super Chick Sisters where you went after KFC, in this one you go after Mickey D's.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

The best part "Make It Viral" posted at the bottom with links for facebook, twitter, etc.

Nothing says "grassroots" like executive design.

Also,  anyone know if their use of Mario/Luigi/Bowser/Yoshi is protected under parody law? Wasn't much of a parody.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

I'm sorry PETA, Mario's license plate (in either the kid-friendly or adult versions) reads *Mustache Ride* ... wtf?!  And yeah, this game is actually a bit old, as I recall it's been on the peta for kids website for quite awhile (at least a year or more). I can't believe anyone would actually lend their names to any of this...PETA is just...ridiculous.

EDIT: Oh, this is *New* Super Chick Sisters, of course...

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Wait a second.  Why the hell would anyone want to rescue Pamela Anderson?  Dumbest. Premise. Ever.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Because she (apprently) supports PETA of course. Who WOULDN'T want to rescue a celebrity PETA member :-P

Good lord, those folks at PETA need to grow the hell up.

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

“Chickens who are killed by McDonald’s suppliers have their throats cut while they are still alive."

Why would you slit something's throat if they're already dead.  That they were alive before, and not alive after is the whole point.  It'd be like saying harvesting crops is bad cause we chop it down "while they are still alive".

Another thought...If we use lasers to cut the chicken's throat, would that make it less old fashioned and therefore okay?

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

“Chickens who are killed by McDonald’s suppliers have their throats cut while they are still alive. You must save them from this cruelty!”

That doesn't seem all that condusive to my goals.  Those goals being eating them.

-Ultimately what will do in mankind is a person's fear of their own freedom-

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

everytime i read one of these PETA things it makes me hungry for whatever they're trying to ban.

as for slitting a chickens throat.. isn't a little small for that? personally i like the lob its head off and let it run better, and if theres pain involved in that lets do the most humane thing besides lethal injection and drown'em.. afterall thats supposedly one of the least painful ways to go, and you can't inject poison into something you intend to eat.

PETA may actually mean something one day when they stand for what they claim and not activist bullshivic. I.E. Humane and Ethical treatment of animals, vs the ouright abolishment of eating meat, having pets, and/or taking care of an animals well being in general (seriously, anyone recall the complaint of sheering sheep as "unhumane"? ever seen an unsheered sheep?! thats sickening to say the least!)

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Shearing sheep is more inhumane to people than the sheep.  Sheeps' wool has been known to house a malicious little organism commonly refered to as anthrax.  So they get a haircut, and the people die.

-Ultimately what will do in mankind is a person's fear of their own freedom-

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

lol i said unhumane...

i thought anthrax was from cattle? hmm learn something new everyday i guess. i'm vaccinated against most of it anywho (WOO HOO for illegal test vaccinations on the troops! damn i feel lucky.. 1 in 10k chance of death and i'm on a ship of 5k... that really felt good.. then they kanked it after my 6th shot... erm... okay... NOW we figure out this was illegal? sry, old rant from '04)

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

Yes I know you said unhumane.  But I wanted to use the real word equivalent.

-Ultimately what will do in mankind is a person's fear of their own freedom-

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

lol i didn't mean that to you, i was laughing at myself for the moronic typo :p

Re: PETA Game: McDonald’s is for the Birds

I may not know PETA as much as you all do, but one thing I do know is that the human and animal race has always killed each other and eaten each other just to survive, like ever heard of something called, the 'Food Chain'?
