Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

November 19, 2009 -

File under bad ideas: one component of a Danish anti-violence campaign features an online game that allows players to virtually beat up a woman.

Hit The Bitch” is the work of The NGO for Children Exposed to Violence at Home and lets players smack around a girl in a bid to elevate scores from the level of “pussy” to “gangsta.”  Users who possess a webcam also have the ability to go interactive, as physical swings and slaps will be translated to on screen violence against the girl.

The site is currently only offered to Danish Internet users due to a high amount of traffic to the site, though the game’s makers note that “domestic violence is a global problem, so please support the fight against it in your local country.”

By all accounts, the game ends with the girl on the ground bleeding and crying. One user reported that the game calls the player an idiot for participating.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Now wait a minute, isn't one of the main complaints from the anti-videogame nuts that violence in games does not show the user real consequences?

Doesn't that make this a good thing?

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Those who can't play Hit the Bitch due to living outside Denmark may play Rose & Camellia instead.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

100% GANGSTA!!

"

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Anyone know how to trick the site into thinking I'm Danish? I haven't played the game but it looks like beyond the webcam it's simply click the woman and then she'll look more and more hurt. I've seen flash versions of those with hated celebrities from the 90s (or early 2000s at the very least).

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

The whole concept is utterly idiotic.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

I'm sure some media outlets and politicians like Fox New and Keith Vaz will pick up on this like they always do.  They will make the token "the games industry must be held accountable" statements.

I wonder if anyone will take this site to task for the racism in the game- that "gangsta" rank and the implication is pure racism.

There is nothing funny about domestic violence...unless its violence against men because poltically correct society today means women > men.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

What makes this so odd is that not only was it not made by the game industry, it wasn't just made by some random internet person: it was made by an anti-violence group. That is just odd. I'm sure there was a point they were trying to make, but I don't really understand it much based on the current description of the game.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

You know Fox News....if it's any type of video game, even on the internet, it must come from the multi-billion dollar game industry. Nope, indie developers or amateur individuals don't exist!

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

You play the game? It starts out with this woman talking about something (I don't speak whatever language they are using, so I don't know) and then you slowly start slapping her with her recieving more damage each time and having a more and more of hurt look on her face. It ends with her face roughed up pretty hard and laying on the floor crying while police sirens come to arrest you.

I think they were trying to shock people.

"

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Domestic violence is bad... but only if you represent it as being only against women.  Of course, if it's against guys... oh well, they're expendable.

After all, it was pointed out in one article about MW2 that the airport scene had less women, children, and elderly being killed than them thar expendable men.

So, how do they reconcile "Oh, you're a child, it's bad to beat up on you but when you turn 18, you boys can be verbally, mentally, physically, and/or sexually abused as much as an abuser wants to because, all of a sudden, you are of no value."

Lemme guess... "Hey, if you're a male abuse victim, you deserve it."  "Statistics say it happens to men less often, so it's ok for it to happen."  "If a man doesn't fight back, since the stereotype says he SHOULD, then he's weak and deserves it.  Of course, if he fights back, then he's abusing women."  How many others I could so come up with.

Intelligent people know, abuse is wrong, no matter who the victim is and no matter who the attacker is.  Only supporters of abuse and abusers would advocate, downplay it, and/or ignore such a fact.

As to the game, shock therapy tends to have terrible side effects.  And those who are grounded in the seperation of fiction versus reality really won't care what's happening to a fictional character (being an actor in a game and pretending that the event is occurring still makes it and the character fictional).  Much in the same way you know that a fire drill isn't real or the simulated tests of hostage situations aren't real.  You might PRETEND it's real, but reality still has its limitations and the participants know that.

Chill man, it doesn't look like the game is giving that message at all.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

It kinda of is. When was the last time you saw an advert, awareness raising event, charity or anything about domestic abuse against men?

Kinda similar to the way all things about cancer are about breast cancer in females, you almost never see awareness raising about testicular cancer.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

I thought testicular cancer was very rare (I know penile cancer is at least). In any case I have heard a lot of warnings along the lines of 'men get your prostates examined so you don't end up with prostate cancer' about as frequently as I hear warnings for women to get breast exams.

As for violence yes it's an issue, but if you're beating up on a genderly ambiguous person it kinda loses the message. Yes I know that's a weak excuse but it's not the same thing as saying 'it's ok to do it against men'. At worst I think it's saying that it's worse if you mdo it against women which isn't a good message.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Or breast cancer in men.  Or that men ALSO carry the genes involved with breast cancer.  Which means, when women are asked is there a family history of breast cancer, they typically think of their mothers and their mother's family members, overlooking the fact that their fathers could have passed the gene on from their own family members.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Wow, it's like you're responding to an entirely different news post.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

"Intelligent people know..."  WRONG.  The political correctness laced with radical feminism that preaches violence against men is acceptable (all men are rapists, after all) is rooted in "traditional" venues of "Intelligent people": academia, universities, and other intellectual institutions.

Being considered "intelligent" does not equate being sensible or even benevolent.  Many of the smartest people (measured by traditional means like education or intellectualism) I have ever known are the most hate-filled promoters of violence.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Even if sociaty has not caught up, at least police training has improved.  Now police will actually take violence against men seriously and arrest the woman.

In the past, you had more chance of the male being arrested.  Grewing up I knew a guy who's wife stabbed him in cold blood.. the cops arrested him under the idea that if the wife stabbed him he MUST have been threatening her or otherwise abusing her.

Granted even that is a pendulum swing since in the 70s police completely ignored rape and violence against women, so in the 80s they overplayed it.  the 90s and 00s seem to be a bit more even.

But on a social level there is still a pretty big stigma with it, and support networks are still pretty sparse to non existent.  I got into an argument a while back with a woman who worked with battered women's shelters and she became downright abusive about the idea that men might ever need a shelter and was particularly nasty about m2f transsexuals (since their presense might make the 'real' women nervous, thus they should never be allowed in shelters). Ok, that was a bit of a tangent....

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

The male is still more often the one arrested.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

But can you do a fatality?

Seriously, what is the point in this? If the user had their virtual hand automatically stopped an inch from the woman's face with the message "It's not this easy to stop domestic abuse", that would be less shocking and still make the point. I can only assume they're trying to get attention by shocking people...?

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

I played through the game, the end makes its message pretty clear, you are 100% idiot if you think that violence against women is badass. Its not that hard to figure out, if you are misunderstanding the point of the game, you either didn't play it and are going by Faux Noise style he said she said or you are in fact 100% idiot.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

WOW!!!!!! More like this game teaches guys & girls to hit & hurt a woman through physical abuse. This is extremely bad. If a guy or girl ever hit me, be ready to hit back......that's all I gotta say. I was raised in a bad neighborhood w/gangs & violence. & I've already told my fiance & made it clear to him that if he raises a to me I will hit back & w/anything I can pick up! :) Plus this article reminds me of when one of my ex bf's hit me on the arm. It was in a mean way too. I hit him back hard for it & he raised another towards me, when one of my guy friends stepped in & said you hit her again, you mess w/me. Needless to say, he didn't me ever again after my friend said that. Hehe. & I have never seen him since thank God! Guys or girls that make games like this are truly sick in the head.

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

The problem with Fox News is it's like rasin bread, minus the bread.  More like a five pound block of raisins pressed into a bread shaped block.  I mean honestly.  They tried to say in a newspaper ad that CNN didn't cover the teabaggers.  And in that newspaper ad they used what was quite likely the CNN tower camera image from the event.  And then when you throw in Fox News training the crowds and well, no, Fox News is closer to The Onion than an actual news outlet.

-Ultimately what will do in mankind is a person's fear of their own freedom-

Re: Anti-Violence Flash Game Lets Users Beat Woman

Yeah, they will get an "expert" on the show to talk about it. She/he will talk about how horrible domestic violence is, maybe take a few potshots at foreigners, then somehow blame women for getting abused.

Yes, and they will say that the game is available for pre-schoolers on Wii console or some bullshit like that.
