Just in time to disappoint legions of juvenile videogamers for the holidays, Common Sense Media has released a list of 10 games that should be avoided for younger players.
Actually we jest, because the list, entitled 10 Cool Games That Are Uncool for Kids, does a decent job of offering safe alternatives for each title it recommends that parents avoid. The full list, with substitutes in parenthesis, follows:
- Assassin’s Creed (Mirror’s Edge)
- Borderlands (Infamous)
- Brutal Legend (Ghostbusters)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Battlefield: Bad Company)
- Dead Space: Extraction (Deadly Creatures)
- Dragon Age: Origins (Braid)
- Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (Batman: Arkham Asylum)
- Demon’s Souls (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves)
- Left 4 Dead 2 (Overlord II)
- Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (C.O.P.: The Recruit)

Look likes Common Sense Media did not use that much common Sense.
I'm going to assume that's Assassin's Creed 2. Mirror's Edge is not a great alternatives, This game has you running from Cop and you can use pistols against them. Although I like Mirror's Edge, I don't know if it will keep your child playing.
Infamous is violent (on the teen-rated level) and you can have Cole do bad guy stuff which I don't think is very much a good idea.
Brutal Legend (Ghostbusters)
Brutal Legend is not really my game. Ghostbusters, well I'm not a fan of this series. But it's not going to be fun for a long time, trust me.
Well, I'm glad Common Sense media got it right when they mention about the "No Russian" mission being skippable. But Battlefield: Bad Company still has that Modern Warfare looks on there. So it's not going to matter, they look both similar.
Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (Batman: Arkham Asylum)
As people said, Batman: Arkham Asylum has a lot of violence. Batman breaks bad guys arms and legs which is not something your children would like to see.
And I thought they didn't couldn't get stupider. Uncharted 2 has you shooting bad guys, while Demon's Soul has you play as a knight wielding sword and play like Elder Scrolls 4. What's more violent, people getting shot up or monsters being killed by sword.

Well, unless your a fan of Ghostbusters like myself, cause if so, you'll be amused with it for a long time.
But I'd buy Brutal Legend just to piss off Activision even more.

It's not the violence, per se, it's going from an M-rated game to a T-rated game. As has been mentioned multiple times.
So relax.

"Who would give a 6 year old Uncharted 2?"
The list of alternative games were not meant to be suggestions for 6-year-olds. They're meant to be alternative suggestions for 12 - 15-year-olds.
