South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson expects “dirty tricks” and “criminal activities” from the Gamers4Croydon campaign as the political battle for his seat heats up Down Under.
Speaking once again to GameSpot, Atkinson said he assumes that the opposition party will result to such tactics because that is, “What I’ve come to expect from gamers.”
He continued:
Regardless, I think they will struggle to get even 1 percent of the votes, and their campaign will actually discredit the public campaign in support for R18+ rather than enhance its chances.
Atkinson further slammed Gamers4Croydon for not having announced a candidate yet and said that he sees no evidence of local support for the party, though he did add that the existence of Gamers4Croydon has inspired him to begin campaigning earlier than normal.
Gamers4Croydon’s head David Doe again inferred that his party has “several candidates” in the pipeline, but refused to reveal further details. He did answer Atkinson’s accusations however:
As for Atkinson, it's not surprising he'd say something like that. It's a completely ridiculous statement. This is a serious issue and we're running a serious campaign. We don't need to use dirty tricks. What's more, I know the party is picking up momentum because more and more people have heard about us when we approach them.
Gamers4Croydon will need to receive 1.0% of the vote to receive a seat in Parliament, which Doe indicated would not pose a problem.

Well of course they won't have any problem getting people to vote for Gamers4Croydon. Atkinson is the one that is attacking the group uprising against him. Geez! He needs to recognize that people hate him & I wouldn't be surprised that parents hate him too. He will definitely lose.

Comments like this show more of Atkinson's character, which is something he may not want to do as it just might come back and bite him. Gamers4Croydon may not make it in the short term, but the awareness they have the opportunity to raise may just do wonders over the coming years. If nothing else they just need to keep Atkinson opening his mouth and showing his ignorance for all to see and hear.

It might not even have been a gamer. He alleges he received anonymous threats, and he's associating it with gamers. Which says more about what he thinks of gamers than anything else.

This is a national election, and 1% to get one seat. Proportionally, you need considerably less in the US to get a seat in congress - you can manage a seat in the house with under 0.2% of the country voting for you in some districts. It actually sounds like a fairly large number to me.

I´m starting to think that Atkinson is actually worried about Gamers4Croydon, so he is rising his mouth by bashing even more his opponents, or at least, he is not used to have any kind of opposition so he is trash-talking against people who isn´t 100% agree with him.

Of coutrse Atkinson thinks that, he's aready made up his mind about gamers as a whole based on the few douchebags who sent threats, if anyone in fact did.
As for not revealing the candidates, VERY wise move. I doubt campaign ads are any more honest there than they are stateside. Usually both say the same thing, just aboutthe other person.
I could just see it if they did reveal anything. "<inster name here> Wants to make pornography and horrible violence available to 8 years olds. Vote Atkinson"

Well that seems reasonable. It's not like they're shooting to control a majority of the government, or some higher seat, they just need someone to get in there and spread the facts.
