Gamers4Croydon, the political party squarely aimed at taking down South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson, has announced its candidates.
The organization’s Croydon candidate, who will take on Atkinson directly, is Kat Nicholson, who will be running for House of Assembly notes GameSpot. Nicholson is described as having a “lifelong love of both gaming and politics.” She is currently working towards a Masters degree in Journalism at the University of South Australia and also previously served as an intern at an Adelaide animation studio.
She also “strongly believes that parents - not the government - can and should be trusted to raise their children with adequate supervision, judgement and discipline.”
Nicholson will need at least 13,000 votes to usurp Atkinson in Croydon.
Additionally, Chris Prior, also the President of Gamers4Croydon, will serve as the group’s candidate for Legislative Council. A “self-taught software engineer,” Prior “believes strongly in adult civil liberties, self-determination, and transparency and accountability in government.”
Additional candidates will “be announced in the future.”

I figure she has the luck on her side. When I say that, I mean if it was a man in her place, then I don't know if the man would win over Atkinson, but the man is also the positive figure of gaming. But then again, a woman going against Atkinson means she claim (if he is discrimatory) towards her or sexist. If he laughs at her or chuckles, which Im sure he will, I know she will definitely take him down. Hopefully she will have her head in the game to take him down.

I can only imagine how a debate between the two of them would go... Ms. Nicholson providing compelling arguments while Mr. Atkinson plays the same cards over and over again.

Well, this looks like it'll be shaping-up to be a very interesting election. If the fact that Kat Nicholson is a young woman is one of the "dirty tricks" that Atkinson was expecting, well it might work! Any of the usual attacks that Atkinson would make against a male opponent of the same age as him wouldn't be as effective. The worst thing you could say about her would be her inexperience. But as we've seen here in the states recently, that isn't necessarily an obstacle (to wit, Obama and Brown).
If Atkinson does attack her, it's going to backfire on him horribly and make him look like both a bully and a chauvinist. Given his parochial attitude, it probably won't be hard to paint him that way by the opposition either. If that's a "dirty trick," it's a brilliant one. But somehow I think we'll more likely see the dirty tricks coming out of Atkinson's camp.

I personally feel that the only person who has been using dirty tactics is Mr Atkinson himself, and of course being politics many people in power will use dirty tactics just to keep their power.
I don't like the feeling of a girl gamer and someone studying to be a journalist running against Atkinson.
Like, even if Mr Atkinson tries his dirty tactics, do you really think that the people of Crydon would notice it if it is not published in the Adelaide papers?
There are good points to this though, like saying to Australia that Gamers are not always grown boys and that even girls can also be hard core gamers as I have known a few across the net and real life too who are REALLY girls.
But being female, mr Atkinson will stoop to a new low by trying to provide a dirty picture who looks like Kat and try to claim that it was her, like what happened to Pauline Handson.
Who knows, if Mr Atkinson is caught trying to do such a thing to her, it might finally give people the chance to realize just what kind of jerk Mr Atkinson really is.

A little internet detectivery (read: a search on Facebook) has led me to the person I think is this Kat Nicholson. She looks... well, young. That'll be Atkinson's main point of contention, I think, and while you don't have to like it, you do have to admit that it needs to be addressed.

I am very curious about how Atkinson will handle a female opponent like this. It seems politically riskier for him to name-call and villify a woman than a man.

Which is actually a smart move, from a political point of view (not to say women are any less able than men, but it'll be interesting to see how this plays out)

I think it will also help the group's image. Atkinson along with others working in politics more often portray the typical adult gamer as something more like an idiot frat boy; they view the party as nothing but a bunch of gamers and have no concerns for the rest of what's going on in the country. This typical negative image of gamers is something that will be harder to paint onto a woman.
Still i would have hoped they could have found someone who atleast seemed more active in the community, if not someone who was already involved in politics or law.
