Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and Guess

January 22, 2010 -

A 30-year old man suspected of stealing an SUV was arrested by police in his home while playing Grand Theft Auto III.

Tampa Bay Online has the story on Michael Ray Ekes of Haines City, Florida, who was busted after the stolen vehicle was found in front of his home. For some reason Ekes was asked what he thought of GTA III. The suspect replied, “It’s a blast.”

Sheriff Grady Judd offered the pearl of wisdom that, “Crime is not a game.” He continued, “Real-life crime has real-life consequences – and I hope he goes to prison for a good long while, where they don't have 'Grand Theft Auto' video games.”

At the time of his arrest, Ekes was free on bail on two counts of grand theft auto and was on probation for a series of other offenses.

The suspect replied, “It’s a blast.”

This made me chuckle.

The third game? Throw the criminal scum in the water!

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Saint's Row is the funny that GTA4 lacks and the game play of Vice City. AKA GTA rip off. yet no less fun

Let me put that on my to-don't list.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

How are the graphics?

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Pretty damn good really. Dare I say it in cases better than GTA4. Not to mention it utilizes the Havok physics engine, so soem crazy stuff can happen. And it's fun to tear up fire hydrants and payphones nad throw them at people.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

I just found saints row 2 more intuitive than gta4 and the learning curve is a little less punishing it also plays better when your on foot.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

meh saints row 2 is more fun anyway heh

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

I've never had an interest in Saint's row.  It's just always come off as a low(er) brow version of Grand Theft Auto.

That does remind me of an amusing thing I saw at a Gamestop.  A woman was trying to buy a game for someone she was talking to over a cellphone.  So she was just calling out box titles.  Upon coming across Crackdown she looks at the back and says "I dunno, it jus' looks like Saint's Row for queers".

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Is real carjacking as easy as it is in GTA?  Can I just open a car door (never locked) and put my hand on the driver's shoulder, causing them to quickly exit the car and stand there and yell at me without moving their lips?  I need a new car...

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

i blame this all on holden caulfield

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

You're such a phony...

No, Luke, I AM the Walrus

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

You can tell the guy's a moron. 1. There are no SUVs in GTA 3. 2. It's so easy to jack a car since everybody in Liberty City keeps theirs unlocked, and the alarms don't get the attention of the cops.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Actually there is the Patriot which is an SUV I gues,s but the other two points remain valid

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Oh, but I steal cars everytime I play GTA, doesn't everyone? lol

/sarcasm off

Excuse me while I file this under Dumb criminal news(through the most recent in the news Section) on the forums(Sarcasm)

America has just became its own version of the Jerry Springer Show after a bizarre moment in Florida involving a carnival worker.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Wait he played GTA, aww I guessed he was playing Starcraft.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

So Jack still hasn't learned how to go about that whole proof of causality thing.  Just because someone who steals cars happened to play a game called Grand Theft Auto does not mean that those two actions are connected in any way.

Do you have any evidence that the person stole the cars because Grand Theft Auto made them?  No?  I thought not.  If you were better with this whole proof end evidence thing you wouldn't be unemployed.

at least he somehow managed to match the title of the game to the name of the crime this time

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

he's 30, and has priors for the same offense.

would be funny to find out his first arrest was after playing the first GTA.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Everyone knows all the real people play GTA 4. GTA 3 is so 2001.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

The anti games peopel won't touch it. For one, the man is 30, and 2, well, you know wha,t it won't matter that GTA3 is a decade old, seeing as they still blame original Doom for stuff.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Well they still make sounds which scare people. :P

Ha, good one!  By the way, you missed the reply button.

More ammo for the ban/censor all video games from everyone crowd.

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Are blanks considered ammo?

Andrew Eisen

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

not to put too fine a point on it, but there are many an occasion when people have been killed by blanks

:)

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Heh, a fine point.  RIP: Brandon Lee.

Andrew Eisen

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Well, technically Brandon wasn't killed by the blank itself...

Re: Grand Theft Auto Suspect Busted Playing… Go Ahead and ...

Technically true, yes.

I figured it was him, since I couldn't think of anyone else that would pull this kind of stunt.

Just out of curiosity, was it you, Pete, or someone else that wrote the article? Probably Pete, but I might as well ask, just in case.

Sora-ChanSo it's just a matter of having better emulation software. If it can be done with a 3DS game, with all the memory and what not it takes up, it can be done with a GBA title through emulation.07/29/2014 - 7:30pm
Sora-ChanOther VC titles for the NES and Gameboy had the same setup where you couldn't access the homescreen without quitting out of the game til a later update when those games were released for the public outside of the founder program.07/29/2014 - 7:28pm
Sora-Chanthe 3DS can, and does, run GBA games, as seen by the founder gifts, which included a number of GBA titles. As for running GBA games and still having access to the home screen, I beleive it's more of the game emulation software needs to be updated.07/29/2014 - 7:27pm
Matthew Wilsonthe 3ds already swaps os's with the original ds. plus I dont think people expect miverse interaction when playing a gba game.07/29/2014 - 6:06pm
MaskedPixelanteBut that's not the issue, the 3DS is perfectly capable of emulating GBA games. The problem is that it doesn't have enough available system resources to run it alongside the 3DS OS, and thus it doesn't have access to stuff like Miiverse and save states.07/29/2014 - 5:45pm
Matthew WilsonI am well aware that it requires more power, but if a GBA emulator could run well on a original psp, than it should work on a 3ds.07/29/2014 - 5:36pm
ZenThe reason the SNES could run Gameboy, or the Gamecube could run GBA was because their adapters included all of the necessary hardware to do it in the respective add-ons. The systems were just conduits for control inputs and video/sound/power.07/29/2014 - 4:51pm
ZenMatthew: Emulation takes more power than people realize to run a game properly. You can make something run on less, but Nintendo...as slow as they are at releasing them..makes them run as close to 100% as possible. Each game has its own emulator for it.07/29/2014 - 4:47pm
Matthew Wilsonkind of hard to believe since the 3ds is atleast as powerful as the gamecube hardware wise.07/29/2014 - 4:27pm
MaskedPixelanteYes, the 3DS has enough power to run 16-bit emulators, but not at the same time it's running the 3DS systems themselves. You could run the games, but you wouldn't get save states or Miiverse.07/29/2014 - 4:04pm
InfophileRunning GBA on 3DS shouldn't be hard. The DS had flashcarts sold for it that added just enough power to emulate GBA and SNES games, so the 3DS should have more than enough natively.07/29/2014 - 3:37pm
