World of Warcraft maker Blizzard Entertainment has donated $1.1 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The contribution came about as a result of a special WOW-initiative that allowed players to purchase a special in-game pet, the Pandaren Monk (pictured). The donation represents 50.0 percent of the sales of the pet in November and December of last year.
Blizzard made the donation yesterday at its headquarters in Irvine, California and also invited 15 Make-A-Wish kids to attend, who were entertained by the WOW-development team and offered a look behind the scenes of the game.
David Williams, Make-A-Wish Foundation of America president and chief executive officer stated, “Thanks to Blizzard Entertainment and World of Warcraft players around the world, we will be able to grant the heartfelt wishes of even more courageous children with life-threatening medical conditions.”

Re: Blizzard Grants a Few Wishes with Charitable ...
Blizzard does show some class in some of the things they do.
Their own Make-A-Wish kid Ezra Chatterton, who passed away last year, has now been immortalized in the game. They made an Elder in the yearly Lunar Festival (a holiday celebrating the Ancestors) named Ezra Wheathoof (the Wheathoof clan was Ezra's creation) and put him in the captial city of Thunder Bluff.
Yes, I am a liberal. I also believe in a strong military, less government, and the right to bear arms.

So, they had this special pet, but only donated half the money that people paid for the pet? Nice gesture, but kind of cheap considering how much cash WoW rakes in.
SOE had a special pet players could buy in EQ2 over the holidays, and they donated twice the purchase price to the Child's Play charity. They also had the same deal with an armor set for Haiti relief.

Not to mention the fact that the donation is tax-deductable.

I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.

It's tax deductable... for now.
Honestly, it's better than nothing for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Re: Blizzard Grants a Few Wishes with Charitable ...
1.1 million is still a lot of money, which = a lot of smiles on kids faces.
And it's far more than the nothing a lot of other companies donate.
Re: Blizzard Grants a Few Wishes with Charitable ...
Well, after the grim news before this, this was a nice thing to see.
And nice to see the Pandaren getting face time in the Warcraft universe again.
