The Princeton Review and GamePro Magazine teamed up in order to rank the top U.S. and Canadian schools for game design.
Rankings were based on academics, faculty, technology and career assistance. The top 8 schools overall were:
- University of Southern California, Interactive Media Division
- DigiPen Institute of Technology
- Drexel University, RePlay (Digital Media & Computer Science)
- Becker College, Game Design and Game Programming
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences
- The Art Institute of Vancouver, Game Art & Design/Visual & Games Programming
- Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Interactive Media and Game Development (IMGD)
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab
Additionally, a Top 50 list of game design schools was also assembled. The full list can be viewed here.

Re: Game Design Schools Ranked
Both of these lists of 'schools' actually seem to be for undergraduate degrees only, and don't represent all programs on offer as implied.
Re: Game Design Schools Ranked
I figured the undergrad thing as soon as Carnegie Mellon's ETC wasn't there.
On the other hand, go RPI! :)
Re: Game Design Schools Ranked
Woo! WPI represent!
Re: Game Design Schools Ranked
Wooo WPI! Still I feel like my generic CS degree from WPI can be used anywhere their gaming degree can, plus all the non-gaming companies won't laugh when they see a degree in such a specialized field. It just seems like video game design should be a masters program, not undergrad.
Re: Game Design Schools Ranked
Wait, so the University of Advancing Technology, a school listed on The ECA's website under Education, isn't even mentioned in the top 50?
Expensive as all heck and apparently not Federally Financial Aid available, from what I can see, but still, it's a very interesting looking program.
I especially like the Game Design path courses. I could really go for that if I had the money. Especially that PSY350 course. :)

GamePro? Really? You'd think IGDA would be the ones to be working with Princeton Review on this.

Re: Game Design Schools Ranked
Actually, The Princeton Review conducted the survey and created the list. GamePro just wrote an article about it.

I wonder if devry is in the top 500?.... >>

DeVry is too high priced. If it is I'm not surprised. But it's more like a private school.
