As time winds down before Australia's March 20th elections, Gamers4Croydon continues to up its presence.
The group issued a call to arms announcement via its Steam Community presence, in which it outlines its policies, candidates and how to vote for the group’s candidates. G4C urged people to forward the posting to as many of their friends and acquaintances as possible.
A section from the communiqué:
It's time to engage in the political process and send a strong message about the type of politician you want to see in parliament. It's time to hold government accountable. It's time to change the face of Australian gaming by changing the face of Australian politics.
Gamers4Croydon is also hosting a rally tomorrow (March 16) at 12:30PM in front of the Parliament house in Adelaide. The organization says that it hopes to reap some media coverage from the event “for once.”
Additionally, the South Australian Gamers4Croydon Constitution (PDF) has been released. Entry number one in the document is “Don’t be a dick.” Another point notes that “Tiberium” is not the answer and draws attention to the G4C mandate or preserving and conserving the environment. Tiberium is a staple of the Command & Conquer series of games, where it appears as a (fictional) substance essential to the game’s plot.
Another section, centered on lying, offers:
34. If you can think of a lie, a politician, somewhere, has told it.
a. If not, someone, somewhere, will.
b. Don’t be one of these people.
c. This applies to dealings within, or related to, the Party.
d. The cake is a lie.
The rest of the document is presented in a straight manner and outlines how the party will operate going forward.

What they should have been doing is fighting to have Freedom of Expression, among other Rights, included in the Australian Constitution as a Bill of Rights. This would serve a larger community, and include the more specific community they are fighting for as well.
Fighting for a Bill of Rights, including general Freedom of Expression, would put Atkinson in his place as he would have to claim in public that his constituants don't care about Freedom of Speech in general, rather than the more specific claim that his constituants don't care about video/computer games.

Dude, he's already called them worse then bikers and accused them of being criminals. How exactly is he going to eat this up? "Don't be a dick" is hardly amunition for anything, he wouldn't get the 34 reference, and when pressed you can simply say that Tiberiam represents any form of unobtanium; some resource that in order to get at you have to cause a lot of destruction of resources.

You're overthinking.
Firstly, this is basically an internal document, or as internal a doc gets for a political party- the only people reading this are the sort of people who have already made their minds up about G4C.
Secondly, those who haven't made their mind up won't notice the game references- you only think it reflects badly because you know the references are there, for everyone else it simply won't reflect at all.

Yep. I lost a lot of respect for G4C. Using that type of language (however brief) and references to a fictional substance isn't what I look for in a serious political movement. The only thing worse would be a political rally attended by cosplayers...
