A dispute over a stolen console and games led to a shooting in an Anchorage, Alaska mall last month.
Police have obtained a warrant for 28-year old Terence Clyde Gray (pictured), who is alleged to have shot 29-year old Edwing Matos at the Dimond Center on February 27. Fairbanks Daily reports that Matos had items stolen from his home a few days prior to the shooting and had arranged to meet Gray in the mall in order to settle the dispute.
Gray allegedly showed up at the meet wearing a wig and fake mustache, which witnesses said looked like a “Halloween costume,” and armed with a .40-caliber pistol. Following a short discussion between the two on a bench, which was captured on surveillance video, Gray reportedly shot Matos twice at point blank range. Matos, wounded in the head and body, later died at the hospital.
Gray fled the scene and is still on the lam. The two men did not know each other before the theft.

Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
I get why this story is here, but if I might offer a little editorial criticism, isn't calling this "gaming news" (let alone gaming politics news) a bit like calling it "automotive news" when someone steals a car, or "financial news" when someone kills for money?
I suppose it might be considered appropriate for the site (and I'm not saying it's not, necessarily... although I am suggesting it) because of the societal implications of the motive of the crime, and the potential political echoes it might bring, but I really think that's a stretch.

No video footage to show us.......? WTF?! The guy that stole the console killed the owner of the console?! That is messed up. Did he want a ransom for it? B/c damn, consoles nowadays are easy to come by, at least when you have money to buy them.....appearantly this guy didn't. If that was the case.

Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
The Dimond Center is no stranger to shootings and violence over stupid things, sadly. Normally it's over girls or something else stupid like that. I suppose that's what happens when it's the main mall all the kids hang out at =P... though, this was two grown men -_-
Video game wise, there used to be a pretty good arcade in the Dimond Center as well, but with the rise in stupid shit done by all the kids that hang out at the mall it shut down. There is one up there now, but it's mostly chuckecheese type games :(. Infact, almost all of our arcades outside the movie theaters have been shut down for similar reasons.

The actual story has the duo's respective roles reversed as far as who robbed who, Pete.

Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
Hey at least this guy wasn't completely brain dead. He had enough sense to try and disguise himself. But I guess if he really had a brain he wouldn't have shot anyone, or even met the guy, or even been carrying a gun, or even had stolen anything. So I guess he is still pretty damn dumb.
Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
Well he looks like I guy I knew in the Bronx and I wouldn't even think about trying to steal his time.

I...uh...wow.
Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
Wait...he stole from this man...and then killed him in the mall? ...allegedly...

Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
No. Matos robbed Gray, and then Gray shot Matos.
Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
You sure about that? 'Cuz that's not what the story says.
Matos had items stolen from his home
If you click through to the original news story, you'll see this:
Police say Gray and Matos planned a meeting at the Dimond Center on Feb. 27 to settle a dispute over property stolen from Matos a few days earlier.
Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
Lysdexia, maybe? I'd read it as, "Matos had stolen items from his home."
Re: Stolen Console and Games Lead to Homicide
Items were stolen from "his home," Matos's home. Tired?
And that sucks. Though the situation seems weird, how did he know that guy had stolen from his home, and how did he get in contact with him?
