Results from a new study seem to indicate that young gamers are twice as likely as their non-playing counterparts to develop tooth decay and cavities.
Wales Online carries a summation of the research, which was conducted by Jordon Poss, (not Dr. Craig Anderson) at the University of Iowa. The study was conducted on teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16 years old and also suggested that kids who had no structured eating patterns were 30.0 percent more likely to suffer cavities.
It was suggested that snacking and drinking soft drinks while playing games contributed to the study’s results.
Dr. Nigel Carter, CEO of the British Dental Health Foundation, told the paper, “This study helps our understanding of the dietary habits and subsequent decay risk of gamers when the effects have previously been unknown.”

Re: Study: Kid Gamers More Susceptible to Tooth Problems
I drink and eat healthy while I play my games & I rarely eat sweets, only when I get a craving. MMMMMMM DOVE CHOCOLATE! Anyways, I don't have tooth decay & have been eating junk food when I was younger before I started eating more healthily since I was a teeny bopper. Still don't have tooth decay from playing games.

It would help if dental ws treated like a normal healthcre thing....then people would have less issues with teeth......

Going out. I drink a lot of Ice Tea in town. I'd drink water at home. So going to town means my teeth decay.
Re: Study: Kid Gamers More Susceptible to Tooth Problems
Video game cause Tooth Decay!!!
I can think of many other that cause tooth decay:
-Studying for your test (because I eat cookie and Potato chip during studying)
-excercise (I drink energy drink and eat chocolate chip cookie while running)
-driving (I commited EWI, eating sugar cookie while driving to class)
If video game cause tooth decay, then whatever activities I just mention cause tooth decay.
Re: Study: Kid Gamers More Susceptible to Tooth Problems
How do you eat a cookie while running?
It is not murder; I am merely advancing the hands of the clock, just a bit.
Re: Study: Kid Gamers More Susceptible to Tooth Problems
Lol very easy. Like eating a burger or fries while eating. Just have to be multitasked.

I eat and drink CRAP while reading books. Are we going to run a dental hygine smear campaign against books too? How about TV? Magazines?

So, kids who snack more have a higher risk of cavities? Who would have thought.

Talk about tailoring your selection to produce the desired results...
As mentioned in the Kotaku article, this is less to do with Computer Games than it is to do with teaching good oral hygiene, it seems the whole idea of focussing it around Video Games was to add a little extra marketability to the report.
Re: Study: Kid Gamers More Susceptible to Tooth Problems
I agree with you on this. Tailoring their selection.
