PC Gaming Alliance Continues Growth

May 14, 2010 -

The PC Gaming Alliance (PCGA) has announced the addition Arxan Technologies, Corsair and Logitech as members, while Razer has joined the organization’s Board. Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan will also serve as the PCGA Board Director.

PCGA, a nonprofit, charges itself with driving the continued growth of gaming on personal computers. PCGA President Randy Stude commented on the group’s additions, “By joining our rapidly growing organization, they are demonstrating their support for expanding the PC Gaming industry and their commitment to improving the PC gaming experience.”

Logitech and Razer are peripheral manufacturers, while Corsair is known most for its memory, but also markets power supplies, USB drives, harddrives and PC cases. Arxan specializes in software application security.

Min-Liang Tan added, “There is so much synergy between Razer’s core DNA - an essence of pure commitment to improving the PC gaming experience with state-of-the-art peripherals - and this organization’s drive to establish high standards and quality guidelines for the evolving industry at large."

Re: PC Gaming Alliance Continues Growth

Continues growth... for what?. This group of idiots has done jack shit to help PC gaming since they created their oh-so-effective organization. The only thing that has been heard from them was a huge cloud of useless BS from Kevin Unangst's dirty mouth pointing at the wrong causes, crying, recommending the POS that is GfWL and proposing absolutely nothing of interest.

Of course, nobody should be surprised, since most of their members (Microsoft, SecuROM, Epic Games) are those doing their best to kill PC Gaming.

Fuck the PCGA. They don't represent us.

Re: PC Gaming Alliance Continues Growth

I can't lie, I actually like GFWL.

Re: PC Gaming Alliance Continues Growth

...And yet, the organization has done little if not nothing and continues to further perpetuate it's image as being purely useless.

CAPCOM (the one major promoter who happens to be both a developer and a publisher (Epic Games is a developer and Microsoft is a publisher)) is still useless for timely PC Game releases, granted they actually release for the PC at all (Super Street Fighter IV is such an example). Sony DADC is responsible for the scourge of DRM that plagues the actual consumers in the gaming industry. WildTangent is a known source of Spyware and in some situations, the equivalent of a rootkit. As for GameStop, when it comes to PC Gaming, it consist of some obscure shelf somewhere in the back of the store next to all the controller peripherals or used items and that's only IF that store actually carries PC games as a great many GameStop retail stores do not.

As I said when the organization first started, I shall say today and will continue to say till I see otherwise: It is an industry organization for the industry with absolutely no benefit towards the average pc gaming consumer and by that notion, is perpetualy useless.

This one is my personal favorite:

ANTI-PIRACY SUBCOMMITEE
Piracy of PC Games is a significant problem. This subcommittee is working to define the problem and propose recommendations that reduce piracy without causing consumer backlash that could hurt the PC gaming market.

Yet, one of their contributors is the developer and promoter of SecuROM, a method of DRM plain and flat out hated by the gaming community. The only way possible this could get more hypocrititcal is if Ubisoft were to join the alliance.

RESEARCH SUBCOMMITTEE
Industry participants, researchers and financial analysts rely on the availability of good quality data on the size, growth and factors affecting markets. Today little data exists on the revenues for the PC gaming market outside of retail boxed sales in the west.  Nor is there reliable data on the installed base of active PC gamers or the details of the PCs that they play on.  The PCGA Data Research subcommittee has helped to solve these challenges by pooling member data and by using external agencies to assemble data on the PC gaming industry.

Steam Hardware Survey.

Did I miss something?

MARKETING SUBCOMMITTEE
The PCGA was formed to serve the needs of the PC gaming industry and consumers.  The Marketing subcommittee has the objective of ensuring the widest possible participation and understanding of the PCGA and its aims.

So outside of the typical self-promoting press releases that we see from any corporation which seem to appear from the PCGA every few months or so, they're accomplishing this... how?

2 Years and counting of a useless organization which seems to be looking more and more like astroturfing in progress. Next thing you know, they'll be lobbying congress claiming they represent the interest of millions of gamers nation-wide.

I agree with you. This organization has done nothing since it was created and I don;t see it doing anothing in the near future.

Re: PC Gaming Alliance Continues Growth

Ya know...if you want mainstream pubs to make more PC games you are going to have to develop a program(not softwre but a fuctional model) that takes in hardware info and focuses on maximizing a games market penetration by making a game as backwards compatible as possible without losing features from the console. Alot of of it will be getting current graphics to work on slightly older cards that can emulate it easily if they bothered to take the time to do it

Until lobbying is a hanging offense I choose anarchy! CP/IP laws should not effect the daily life of common people! http://zippydsmlee.wordpress.com/

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Let's renegotiate them.

TechnogeekIf the developer were male there wouldn't have been a "conversation" in the first place.10/19/2014 - 2:27am
Montetrolls are just at their absolute worst when it comes to women and feminist. You could bet good money that if the developer were male the trolls would be silent and the conversation would actually focus on the journalism.10/18/2014 - 9:18pm
MontePapa: Not the first time we've had a journalism scandals before, but the harassment never got close to this level; the difference with this scandal is that feminists are involved. Without the feminist angle, their would be A LOT less harrassment10/18/2014 - 9:15pm
Papa MidnightMonte: That's honestly rather short-sighted. As has been proven with other persons who have been targeted, if it wasn't Quinn, it would be someone else.10/18/2014 - 6:26pm
AvalongodI think that's part of what gives an esoteric news story like this real life...it taps into a larger narrative about misogyny in society outside of games.10/18/2014 - 3:29pm
Avalongod@Monte, well the trolls made death threats that came to police (and media attention). I think this is tapping into a larger issue outside of games about how women are treated in society (like all the "real rape" stuff during the last election)10/18/2014 - 3:28pm
WonderkarpZippy : Havent tried the PS4 controller. might later.10/18/2014 - 2:37pm
MonteSeirously, If Quinn was not involved and GG was instead about something like the Mordor Marketing contracts, the trolling would have never grown so vile and disgusting. There have been plenty of movements in the past that never sufferred from behavior..10/18/2014 - 1:57pm
MonteWe have seen scandel's before but the trolling has never been as vile as what we see with GG. Trolls usually have such a tiny voice you can barely notice them, but its like moths to a flame whenever femistist are involved.10/18/2014 - 1:53pm
ZippyDSMleeWonderkarp: You might be able to if you had a PS4 controller.10/18/2014 - 1:00pm

Matthew Wilsonthe sad thing is there are trolls on both sides of this. people need to stop acting like their side is so pure.10/18/2014 - 12:19pm
MechaTama31So, only speak out on a scandal that hasn't attracted trolls? I wouldn't hold my breath...10/18/2014 - 10:49am
MonteI feel like GG just needs to die. The movement is FAR to tainted by hatred and BS for it to be useful for any conversation. Let GG die, and then rally behind the NEXT gaming journalism scandal, and start the conversation fresh.10/18/2014 - 10:33am
quiknkoldand we dont have a Dovakin to call a cease fire10/17/2014 - 7:37pm
quiknkoldThe whole thing is Futile. Both sides are so buried deep in their trenchs that there isnt a conversation. Its just Finger Pointing, Name Calling, Doxxing, Threats. there needs to be a serious conversation, and GG isnt it.10/17/2014 - 7:37pm
quiknkoldI thought it was a good article. Jeff is right. I feel like GamerGate did destroy its message. I am for Ethics in game journalism, but man. so much hate. and its on both sides. I've seen some awful stuff spewed on twitter. Its a big reason why I exited..10/17/2014 - 7:34pm
Matthew Wilsonwhile he focused on gg, he did call out both sides crap.10/17/2014 - 7:18pm
