Current Connecticut Attorney General (and current senatorial candidate), Richard Blumenthal, has more to worry about than Beer Pong for the Wii and the way the ESRB classifies alcohol use in videogames this morning. According to a New York Times story, Blumenthal has been lying about his service in Vietnam. "Lying" is a strong term for a politician to face, and though he has acknowledged in the past that he didn't actually serve in Vietnam, he certainly has never gone out of his way to correct the record; in many speaking engagements across the state of Connecticut and in front of Veterans groups, he has gone as far as he could to give the impression that he was in fact a Vietnam veteran. He also never corrected the record on being on the Harvard swim team, a widely circulated biographical note that turns out to be false as well.
The New York Times report, which World Wrestling Entertainment co-founder and Republican senatorial candidate Linda McMahon is taking credit for, also reveals that Richard Blumenthal had as many as 5 deferments to avoid having to serve in Vietnam. Instead he served with a unit that did drills, helped with the Toys of Tots program and did a myriad of activities that didn't involve actual combat.
It will be interesting to see if he survives this scandal. Richard Blumenthal was running to replace Connecticut senator Chris Dodd, who is retiring at the end of this year.

And yet another person who adds to the stereo-type of politicians are liars.
Maybe it shouldn't even be called a stereo-type anymore, it's just the simple truth?
Re: NYT: Beer Pong Critic No Vietnam Vet
Saw this on the news. As I learned in my communication class, politics are professional liars.

Yup. The easiest way to tell is to see if their lips are moving.

Whether or not that rings any bells "...depends on what your definition of 'is' is."
"That's not ironic. That's justice."

It's telling that moral crusaders are often immoral themselves. Like it applies to everyone but them.
Re: NYT: Beer Pong Critic No Vietnam Vet
They had toys for tots drives during the Vietnam War?
On a 100% related note, do soldiers get paid to work those drives? Do they get paid out of my tax money? More importantly, was my parents hard earned and frankly insubstantial money given to other little kids for a holiday I wasn't allowed to celebrate!?
... I'm kinda pissed.
Re: NYT: Beer Pong Critic No Vietnam Vet
Members of the military are paid salary, so yes, he was paid during toys for tots.

Perception is a lovely thing, its "good" to be seen as a fighter against inane yet "bad" things (guns ,abortion ,games ,media ,rap ,books ,ect ,ect). The appearance of doing "good" outweighs any reality otherwise.... this works well for both political correctness and politics....

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Let's renegotiate them.
