Capcom: No Gamescom Public Showing Planned

July 26, 2010 -

Capcom has not received a classification for Dead Rising 2 from the German government, and it doubts it will ever receive one because the first game was banned in the region. So with that in mind it has decided to opt out of a public showing at this year's Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany. This makes a lot of sense because the company is only showing two games at this time and one of them is Dead Rising 2.

Still Capcom will be at the show behind closed doors showing off its games to the press. Here's what Capcom had to say about it:

"Gamescom allows publishers and developers an excellent opportunity to promote their titles to both consumers and media. Therefore when taking the decision to exhibit we must weigh up what we can offer both of these groups at that time," said Capcom in a statement.

"In the case of consumers we feel it makes sense for them to experience the titles that will be available in stores over the next few months and right now we have confirmed two titles for release between August and the end of the year – Dead Rising 2 and Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes. As you are probably aware the first Dead Rising was banned in Germany and as we are still awaiting a verdict from the USK for Dead Rising 2 it would be remiss of us to promote the sequel to consumers in Germany. While Sengoku Basara is a great title we cannot justify solely exhibiting this one game."

Gamescom will take place in in Cologne, Germany, from August 18 - 22, 2010.

Re: Capcom: No Gamescom Public Showing Planned

Remember that it's GERMAN gamers being screwed over because a company like Capcom doesn't feel like dealing with a nanny state government.

What do you expect Capcom to do?

Re: Capcom: No Gamescom Public Showing Planned

Indeed. They shouldn't have to make a different version of a game just because a government is a bit squeemish.

Re: Capcom: No Gamescom Public Showing Planned

Yeah! Why should they be forced to alter their product because a few "please think of the children" Moral Crusading douschbags think they have the right to make any arbatrary and unessasary changes they want, just so that the game can even be classified, and that they can satisfy the false notion that they are actually doing something to stop people from going on murderous rampages.

Re: Capcom: No Gamescom Public Showing Planned

Bleh, my sarcasm detector is i nthe shop, so I can't tell if you're being serious, but I think you are.

Re: Capcom: No Gamescom Public Showing Planned

My pilosophy is, if it doesnt have sarcasm quotes, it's probably what he really thinks, although I guess I did get a little carred away.... ^_^;

Re: Capcom: No Gamescom Public Showing Planned

Just glad to see we're agreed on that.

This same sort of thing happened with movies. Back before the MPAA different towns had different ratings boards, making marketing movies nationally all but impossible. The same thing seems to be happening to video games but on an international level instead.

MechaTama31I mean, of the groups being bullied here, which of the two would you refer to collectively as "nerds"?10/19/2014 - 11:30pm
MechaTama31But that's the thing, it doesn't sound to me like he is advocating bullying, it sounds like he is accusing the SJWs of bullying the "nerds", who I can only assume refers to the GGers.10/19/2014 - 11:21pm
Andrew EisenInteresting read. Unfortunately, too vague to form an opinion on but at least now I know what faefrost was talking about in James' editorial.10/19/2014 - 10:39pm

Neo_DrKefkaOnly good thing I seen come out of the Biddle incident was the fact a professional fighter offered to give 10k to an anti bullying charity for a round in the ring with Biddle.10/19/2014 - 7:49pm
Neo_DrKefkaEven after all the interviews she is still on twitter making fun of people with disabilities (Autism) yet she is a part of the crowd that is on the so called right side of history...10/19/2014 - 7:48pm
Neo_DrKefkaWhich #GameGate supports are constantly being harassed and bullied. Brianna Wu who I told everyone she was trolling GamerGate weeks ago with her passive aggressive threats was looking for that crazy person in the crowd.10/19/2014 - 7:47pm
Neo_DrKefkaI believe the problem #GamerGate has with Sam Biddle is he is apart of this blogging group that in a way hates or detests its readers. Also being apart of the crowd that claims its on the right side of history isn't helping when he is advocating bullying10/19/2014 - 7:45pm
MechaTama31Of course, I'm looking at these tweets in isolation, I don't know a thing about the guy.10/19/2014 - 7:06pm
MechaTama31If anything, the sarcastic implication seems to be that the SJW crowd is bringing back the bullying of nerds. But it's the GGers who are out for his blood? I'm lost...10/19/2014 - 7:01pm
MechaTama31I don't really get this Sam Biddle thing. The reaction to his tweets seems to be taking them at face value, but... they're tongue in cheek. Right?10/19/2014 - 7:00pm
Andrew EisenI have it. The problem, so far as I can tell, is neither of them allow me to overlay my webcam feed or text links to my Extra-Life fundraising page.10/19/2014 - 4:08pm
