The creators of Immortal Defense, an indie developed story-based tower defense strategy game are experimenting with a business model that lets players pay whatever they want. Other indie developers have tried this --including the guys behind World of Goo - and it has proven to be a pretty successful model because no matter what people pay for the game, the sales tend to be a lot higher.
Radical Poesis Games & Creations says that this is not a sale, and not time-limited, but simply a test of using this model as a permanent pricing model. If it doesn’t work out they can always switch back to a more rigid pricing model. Still, they want it to work and will probably use it for future releases like Saturated Dreamers which is currently in production.
The only stipulation is that they need at least a minimum payment of $1.75 to cover fees, but more generous payments are welcomed and encouraged.

Re: Pay What You Want: Immortal Defense
I like the "pay what you want" model, but find it absolutely hilarious that people STILL pirate these games.
Kinda shoots down the whole "it costs too much!" argument that's been thrown around here, doesn't it?

Re: Pay What You Want: Immortal Defense
it actually feels kind of fun to have my game posted on this blog -- i started reading gamepolitics back when it was on livejournal, and have been a fan since then. keep up the good work and i'll certainly let you know how the model goes after a month or two of trying it out.
