While the fact that paintball-themed videogames exist at all comes as news to us, one of the more eminent practitioners of the hobby/sport has a new game coming out with Majesco, following a rocky multi-game partnership with Activision.
While speaking to GamesRadar about his forthcoming title, Greg Hastings talked a bit about his time spent with Activision, and they are not fond memories. “I had to fire Activision for doing such a poor job,” said Hastings.
He continued, “Within 24 hours of me shipping my PlayStation 2 game, Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball Max'd, they sent me a letter and they said, 'We feel you've abandoned your franchise, and we're going to commence making games called Greg Hastings Paintball without Greg Hastings.’”
Hastings claimed that he won the battle in court, but only after spending a “whole pile of money.” He added, “A billion-dollar company tried to steal my identity, and I was able to fight and regain my identity. That's why I'm on cloud nine; I fought the giant and I'm a success story against Activision.”
Greg Hastings Paintball 2 is due for release on September 14 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

Re: Pro Paintballer Blasts Activision
Did anyone else play "Gotcha!" on the NES? You had to shoot people with paintballs while moving across a field to capture a flag. It forced you to use the controller and the Zapper simultaneously, which is perhaps the worst control scheme ever concocted.
I felt a recursive sense of futility while I was playing it: it's a video game, a simulacrum of a given activity, about paintball, a mock-up of real combat. Sort of like watching a Sim watching TV. Seemed more pointless than usual.

Controller sets on my knee while my left hand's index finger and middle finger work the left and right buttons (the only two you need to use) and my right hand with the zapper is focused solely on the TV screen.
Also, I played this last week. It isn't complicated in the slightest, at least compared to what I am used to playing these days. When was the last time you gave it a whirl?
Re: Pro Paintballer Blasts Activision
I HATE Activision. Really, really hate them. In a way I have never hated any other corporation. I hope Bobby Kotick DIAF.
Re: Pro Paintballer Blasts Activision
Really? More than Enron, Halliburton, or BP? I dunno about that. Even within the industry, as bad as Activision is, there are more worthy targets -- EA comes to mind.

This is the second time I get to post this in reference to an Activision post. They suck, horribly.
