Sex Ed Game Gets Thumbs Down for XBLA

September 17, 2010 -

The explicit nature of a sex education game is apparently enough to keep it off Xbox Live Arcade.

Zombie Cow Studios, developer of the game Privates, has been told that the game probably would not be approved in a peer review of the game, according to company co-founder Dan Marshall.

“The guys at Xbox have been amazing. They’ve been really supportive and helpful throughout, but ultimately have advised that the game wouldn’t pass the Indie Games Peer Review process, purely due to its inherently sexual nature. As a result, if you want to play as a tiny little man blasting away inside someone’s innards, the only place to do it is privatesgame.com

According to the game description:

Privates is a platform shooter in which you lead a teeny-tiny gang of condom-hatted marines as they delve into peoples’ vaginas and bottoms and blast away at all manner of oozy, shouty monsters. It’s rude, funny, bitingly satirical and technically pretty accurate if you don’t count the tiny people or the germs with teeth.

Only the Xbox 360 version has been canned, as the PC version is still available for download free from Zombie Cow's site.

Ok currently there is a game that is called Baby Maker Extreme on XBLIG which, while does not literally contain any sexual content (outside of a side view of some legs opened and a baby launching out of it).

From what I gather, this game is educational and would probably benefit more outside of a game.  Put it on PC and pop it on the internet.

Re: Sex Ed Game Gets Thumbs Down for XBLA

XBLA is not the same as XBLIG

They were trying to put this on XBL Indie Games.  XBLIG has a peer review process, where other game creators approve or disprove the games.  Microsoft has a set guideline they have to follow and the other creators determine if the game followed those rules.

Indie games don't get rated by the ESRB.

Dammit! I was really looking forward to playing this one on Xbox360!

I think it's ridiculous that they have no problem at all with extremely violent games, but bung a penis in there and they're all like "Oh Lord, a PENIS! We can't POSSIBLY allow THAT!"

Re: Sex Ed Game Gets Thumbs Down for XBLA

I highly recommend downloading their "Ben There, Dan That" game. It's a wonderful homage to the Golden Age of point-and-click adventures.

Ah, the days when LucasArts made games that WEREN'T Star Wars-related...

Re: Sex Ed Game Gets Thumbs Down for XBLA

Wow Microsoft I thought you were better than Apple when it came to this. Who cares if there's sex involved it could very well be worth playing.

I don't know why, but the sounds of the lice from an episode of Xena suddenly came to mind.  :O

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Let's renegotiate them.

MechaTama31quik: But even if it did break, at worst it is only as bad as the powder. Even that is assuming that it is dangerous through skin contact, which is not a given if its delivery vehicle is a syringe.09/21/2014 - 4:30pm

quiknkoldSyringes can break. And in a transcontinental delivery, the glass could've broken when crushed. I work in a mail center. Shit like this is super serious09/21/2014 - 3:25pm
E. Zachary KnightIt doesn't matter what is inside the needle. As long as it requires him to take the step of purposefully injecting himself, the threat of the substance is as close to zero as you can get.09/21/2014 - 1:27pm
quiknkoldEzach: I'm not talking about the needle. I'm talking about what's inside. Geeze. Depending on what it is, the sender could be guilty of bioterrorism.09/21/2014 - 12:51pm
E. Zachary Knightquiknkold, No. That syringe is not worse than white powder or a bomb. The syringe requires the recipient to actually inject themselves. Not true for other mail threats.09/21/2014 - 12:49pm
Andrew EisenThe closest to a threat I ever received was a handwritten note slipped under my door that read "I KNOW it was you." Still no idea what that was about. I think the author must have got the wrong apartment.09/21/2014 - 12:28pm

quiknkoldIt's pretty gnarly. Depending on what it is, it could be worse than white powder or a fake bomb.09/21/2014 - 9:06am

quiknkoldThere's some more tweets regarding it with more pictures09/21/2014 - 8:09am
quiknkoldMilo Yiannopoulos was mailed a syringe filled with clear liquid. He claims it's anti gamergate harassment. Mentioned on his twitter twitter.com/Nero/status/51366668391625523209/21/2014 - 8:07am
Andrew EisenNow, having said that, what sites are you reading that are claiming that if "you self-identify as a Gamer, you're immediately the problem" or that gamers are "obligated to stop harassment"? Or was that hyperbole too?09/21/2014 - 1:03am
Andrew EisenFirst of all, ONE person in the Shout box suggested an obligation to call harassers out on their harassing but only after YOU brought it up. Plus, Techno said "when you see it happening." If you don't see it, you're not under any obligation.09/21/2014 - 1:02am
Sleaker@Craig R. - at this point I don't even know what the hashtags are suppsed to be in support of. what does GamerGate actually signify.09/21/2014 - 12:21am
Sleaker@AE - Hyperbole for the first 2, but it seems like some of the comments in the shout are attempting to place blame on fellow gamers because they aren't actively telling people to stop harassing even though they don't necessarily know anyone that has.09/21/2014 - 12:16am
