Schilling: 38 Studios Will Make Providence a Global Force

November 23, 2010 -

Never one to shy away from an open microphone, 38 Studios head Curt Schilling recently outlined an extremely confident vision for his company in Rhode Island at a Providence Business News’ Business Excellence Awards event.

Schilling, recipient of a $75 million loan from the state as a lure to move his company from Massachusetts to the Ocean State, offered, “My word on this: four to five to six years from now, we’re going to be looking back on this, and I know that 38 Studios will be one of the companies that will push and incentivize the Providence business community to become a national and global force.”

Rhode Island Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee, a vocal opponent of the loan to 38 Studios, was the subject of a jab by Schilling, who, when showing a screenshot of a fat giant fighting a much smaller opponent from the 38 Studios game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, said, “That’s actually Governor-Elect Chafee and I on Election Day.”

Schilling also promised that his company would be heavily involved in the community, especially in philanthropic and charitable endeavors.

“Four or five” 38 Studios employees have already purchased homes in the Providence area and, for now, are commuting to Massachusetts added Schilling. An exact date for 38 Studios to take up residence in its new home has not yet been determined.

Well I'm certainly rooting for him. He has R.A. Salvatore and people from Bethesda on his team, and that's nothing to sneeze at.

MaskedPixelanteSomething, something, the 3DS can't properly emulate GBA games and it was a massive struggle to get the ambassador games running properly.07/27/2014 - 8:06pm
Andrew EisenIdeally, you'd be able to play such games on either platform but until that time, I think Nintendo's using the exclusivity in an attempt to further drive Wii U sales.07/27/2014 - 7:21pm
Matthew WilsonI am kind of surprised games like battle network are not out on the 3ds.07/27/2014 - 7:01pm
Andrew EisenWell, Mega Man 1 - 4, X and X2 are already on there and the first Battle Network is due out July 31st.07/27/2014 - 6:16pm
MaskedPixelanteDid Capcom ever give us a timeline for when they planned on putting the Megaman stuff on Wii U?07/27/2014 - 2:23pm
MaskedPixelanteIf by "distance themselves from Google Plus" you mean "forcing Google Plus integration in everything", then yes, they are distancing themselves from Google Plus.07/26/2014 - 12:20pm
MechaTama31I wish they would distance G+ from the Play Store, so I could leave reviews and comments again.07/26/2014 - 11:03am
Matthew Wilson@pm I doubt it. Google seems to be distancing themselves from G+07/25/2014 - 9:31pm
