Game Informer points out that PlayStation Network players may want to check their settings if they are playing SOE's DC Universe Online. If you have your PSN wallet set to auto-fund purchases it will automatically charge your card when your DC Universe subscription becomes due every month. This is not some big controversy, just a warning about keeping absolute control of your purchases on PSN. Here's how the GI staff came to that conclusion:
"A couple days ago, a few of our editors began receiving notices that our free 30-day subscriptions to DC Universe Online on PS3 had expired. Because we had no credit card on file for our PlayStation 3 accounts, the accounts did not renew.
The other side of that coin is that if you do have a credit card on your PlayStation Network account, and you have your "wallet" set to auto-fund purchases, DC Universe Online will begin charging your account the regular $14.99 monthly fee, and will continue to do so until you cancel.
If you purchased the game anytime around launch week, your first renewal has likely just gone through, or is about to sometime soon. If you want to continue playing, make sure and have funds available in your account. If you don't, remember to cancel your account. "
GI goes on to say that the game isn't as clear as it could be about the whole billing process when you first set up your account. You've been warned.

Re: PSA: DC Universe Auto-Renews on PSN
The ECA has no room to talk about other companies and how their auto renew policies works
Anyone remember a year or two back when the ECA promised and promotion and never delivered and to stop people from canceling their memberships they took out the feature to cancel your ECA membership online and forced people to write in which caused tons of people on the ECA web site to get banned or have their accounts purged.
Then a year later other sites report the people who wrote in never had their accounts canceled.
I know this post won’t last long though the ECA has dared to comment on another company’s policies but I am sure we will get a rave review about how good the ECA is with a photo of Hal folding his arms.

It isn't. Neither is GP. This article is info, not criticism.

Anyone remember a year or two back what actually happened? I do.
-The ECA did deliver the Amazon promotion, right up until Amazon pulled it. The ECA then removed references to the promotion and updated its benefits page accordingly.
-The ECA did not remove the "cancel auto renewal" feature. At the time, that had never been an active feature. Writing in was always one of the only ways to cancel your membership. There was also an online web form. Calling was an option at one point but had been removed sometime in the prior 18 months.
-No one was banned or had "their accounts purged" for writing in to cancel their memberships.
"Then a year later other sites report the people who wrote in never had their accounts canceled."
First I've heard of that. Got a link? Anyway, shortly after that incident, the ability to cancel your membership online was added.

Nah, I'll leave your post up. While completely nonfactual and dickish, it's not too far off topic but again, the ECA has not commented on another company's renewal policies. If another site offers a rave review of the ECA, yeah, we'll probably write about it. I personally would probably use a pic of the person writing the review or the ECA logo rather than a pic of Hal though.

Is GP just totally new to MMO's or something? Just get your first credit card last week?
THIS IS NOT NEWS
Re: PSA: DC Universe Auto-Renews on PSN
PS3 players might be new to all this. For them, it is news, and they should be made aware.
Re: PSA: DC Universe Auto-Renews on PSN
If ANYONE needs to be told this, considering how long MMO's have been doing the monthly sub, they have much bigger problems than getting an unexpected charge.
Just because the MMO isn't on PC, doesn't mean they have an excuse to be an idiot.

With the first link, the chain is forged.
Re: PSA: DC Universe Auto-Renews on PSN
Not just MMOs, but anything subscription based that accepts a credit card. Heck, Utility companies do this as well. And it's not like it's a hidden message either. By law, they're required to declare it's a monthly fee on the packaging/advertising, as well when you sign up for an account, and if it's a recurring fee, to mention it in the payment options screen and to have the definition of recurring fees on the same page. Most also have it on the final confirmation screen as well.
The only people who would be caught off guard with this are those who should not have a subscription to anything anyways.

Good thing I never plan to play it.
