E3's Financial Impact on Los Angeles

May 24, 2011 -

In case you didn't know or need a reminder, the ESA issued a press release today pointing out that the Electronic Entertainment Expo returns to Los Angeles in early June. The annual event dedicated to the interactive entertainment industry takes place June 7 - 9 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The press release was more about the impact the event has on Los Angeles than the industry.

The event expects to draw "tens of thousands" of attendees which will result "in millions of dollars for Los Angeles." According to the ESA, 28,000 hotel room nights have been booked to date and an estimated $25.1 million in revenue will be generated. Because of the sheer volume of attendees, many major Downtown Hotels as well as properties in the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood will also generate revenue from the show.

Naturally, city officials are delighted with E3's affect on local businesses:

"We’re proud to be the host city once again for E3," said Mark Liberman, president and CEO of LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau. "This is the world’s premier trade show for computer and video games as well as related products, and Los Angeles is one of the leading cities when it comes to technology. We look forward to E3’s return next month."

"The Electronic Entertainment Expo has increasingly solidified its position as one of the most significant anchor tenants of the LACC," said Pouria Abbassi, CEO and general manager of the Los Angeles Convention Center. "We are proud to host such a leading edge event for the leading minds of the interactive entertainment industry."

E3 is a trade-only event for software developers, buyers, retailers, programmers, distributors, entertainment industry representatives, financiers, venture capitalists, imports, manufacturers, educators, analysts, and members of the media.

Andrew EisenEh, okay. Still not a fan of the layout but I'm getting a better sense of what it's trying to do. Less crap layout and more just different. Continuing on!05/06/2015 - 11:30am
Andrew EisenWow. That is quite possibly the most jumbled, confusing layout for a site I've ever seen. What an incomprehensible mess! Well, maybe the content is where it's at.05/06/2015 - 11:25am

Andrew EisenMatt - What feminist/anti-feminist insanity are you talking about? Certainly not the contents of the article EZK linked. Maybe the comments of said article?05/06/2015 - 9:10am
Infophile@Wonderkarp: The P.T. re-download issue is apparently limited to the US PSN only. Apparently Europe doesn't have this problem. So perhaps this means it'll be fixed.05/06/2015 - 8:20am
IvresseYou're talking about decisions in general. I prefer to judge decisions on a case-by-case basis.05/06/2015 - 8:10am
MattsworknameIvresse, if you weren't doing that already, you haven't been paying attention the last 5 years.05/06/2015 - 5:09am
IvresseRegarding EA, they can give all the estimates they want. However if they then pull a Square Enix and classify it as a failure when they sell 4-5 million copies, then frankly that's when I start questioning EA's decisions...05/06/2015 - 3:18am
