NCsoft to Host Golden Chippies Awards

July 15, 2011 -

NCsoft Europe will serve as the host of the inaugural Golden Chippies Awards on Wednesday July 20 at Brighton’s Regency fish restaurant. The "tongue-in-cheek" awards honor massively multiplayer gaming journalists in the UK. The event will also raise money for GamesAid. The awards are a precursor to the Develop Awards.

"MMO journalism is a labour of love for those involved. A niche but growing subset of traditional gaming media, these guys really are doing it through devotion to the genre. The Golden Chippies allow us to sing their praises over some classic seaside fare and raise some cash for a good cause in the process." said NCsoft EU PR Director, Cat Channon.

The award categories are pretty crazy, for the most part:

- GM Award for Appearing to Know More than the Developers

- Tank Award for Impenetrable Resolve and Integrity

- Emote Award for Most Eminently Cheery Journalist

- AFK Award for Hardest MMO Journalist to Track Down

- Twink Award for the Strongest Introduction to MMO Journalism

- MMO Journalist of the Year

After the awards are handed out, host Davina Sparkle will serve as the official bingo caller to help raise money for GamesAid. The awards are an unofficial precursor to the official Develop Awards party sponsored by NCsoft and hosted by Eurogamer and Gamesindustry.biz.

The Golden Chippies is an invite only event starting at 7pm local time for journalists.

MaskedPixelanteDude was at the center of a pretty serious plagiarism scandal back in 2011, and it was widely known he ripped off other musical pieces well before that.12/27/2014 - 9:33am
Kajex@Masked Right, because his work actually composing music for several Metroid games necessitated plagiarism.12/27/2014 - 9:04am
MaskedPixelanteI can't believe Kenji Yamamoto got another job. Then again, his job on Smash was "musical arrangment", so copying other people's work is right up his alley.12/26/2014 - 9:31pm

Matthew Wilsonits a bunch of script kiddies. ddosing is one of the easiest thing to do,and most companies can not stop it sadly.12/25/2014 - 5:05pm
MaskedPixelanteI like Nintendo as much as the next person, they're pretty much the only company putting out the games I want to play, but that was pretty embarassing to have NNID go down due to overuse.12/25/2014 - 4:35pm
MaskedPixelanteSee? It's NOT a repeat of last year's fiasco.12/25/2014 - 4:22pm

IanCOh shut up bitching about Nintendo. At least they advised people to downloading updates before the big day. Sony/MS? Not a peep.12/25/2014 - 3:50pm
MaskedPixelanteBoth PSN and Xbox Live are down. Since I'm sure Sony and Microsoft have better online support than Nintendo did last year, this isn't from "everyone logging onto their new devices all at once".12/25/2014 - 3:48pm
