Garry Crawford's New Book 'Video Gamers' Now Available

August 8, 2011 -

A new book called "Video Gamers" by British Sociologist Garry Crawford hits book stores (both virtual and brick-and-mortar) this week. The book was published earlier this month by Routledge (London & New York) and is priced at £25.99.

While other books have tried to tackle different areas of video game culture including the negative and positive affects on children, Crawford focuses on why video gaming is "economically, educationally, culturally, socially and theoretically important, and has, in a relatively short period of time, firmly cemented its place within contemporary life."

Mostly the book focuses on the people who play games and how various game technologies affect everyday life. The book, according to its author, provides a key introduction to the study of gamers and the games they play, and reflects on the current debates surrounding gaming practices.

Crawford, a Cultural Sociologist at the University of Salford in the UK, has conducted plenty of research issues relating to audiences and consumers, in particular sports fans and video gamers. He has published numerous books including "Online Gaming in Context" (2011, edited with V.K. Gosling & B. Light), "The Sage Dictionary of Leisure Studies: (2009, with T. Blacksaw), "Introducing Cultural Studies" (2008, with B. Longhurst, G. Smith, G. Bagnall & M. Ogborn), and "Consuming Sport" (2004). You can check out his previous works at Amazon.co.uk.

For Americans that want to pick up a copy of this book, you can check out this Amazon.com product page. It's priced at $49.95.
