Former Oasis front man and now solo artist Noel Gallagher says that video games and TV violence are to blame for the civil unrest in London.
"We live in this age of violence—and I don't care what other people say: Brutal TV and brutal videogames are a reason for this pointless violence as well," Gallagher is quoted as saying in Bang Showbiz. "The people are immune to violence, they are used to it. And if they get caught they aren't punished the right way. The prisons are already full? Then build new ones!"
Gallagher, now a solo artist, is the former singer-songwriter for UK band Oasis. This kind of talk from Gallagher is not an isolated incident; in 2008, he blamed video games for a UK knife crime.
It's always interesting to see how some artists have a dim view of other forms of art. If someone had suggested that music he had written was responsible for violence he would no doubt scoff at such a notion.

"Brutal TV and brutal videogames are a reason for this pointless violence as well"
And I suppose it has nothing at all to do with, say, prominent celebrities setting a bad example with public displays of drunken violence?
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence
A rock artist blames another forms of art for violence with no evidence, who incidently has his own history of violence within his job as an artist. Gotta say, the irony is delicious. I mean, how much crap has his form of art taken? Let's not forget all the times music has actually been involved with large social movements or has been blamed for violence. 1960's anyone?

If games can do it so can music, glass house anyone?
Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Let's renegotiate them.

So there weren't any riots before 1980?
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence
Noel/Joel Gallagher citing moral dilemmas?!?!?! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! (deep breath) AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh man... that's a good one.
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence
Agreed. You don't start a conversation with "I don't care what other people think" in a public forum and expect to be taken seriously. This is the very definition of ignorance.
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence
This is the age-old "it wasn't like this in my day and age". Rock stars like the above are now an older generation, and now have the same views as the parents they rebelled against. It will the same for this generation when they grow older.
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence
Because the Gallagher brothers are the utmost pinnacle of good, non-violent behaviour, right?
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence
Weren't these guys, Oasis, well known for getting into brawls all the time, including each other, not to mention shooting off their mouths. I'm not sure these are the folks to wag their fingers at anyone...
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence
And I'm pretty sure your genre of music and over all art form was blamed for all the ills of the world at some point mister.
"It's always interesting to see how some artists have a dim view of other forms of art."
That assumes he's not part of the "games are not nor ever will be art" crowd.
Re: Former Oasis Singer Blames Games for London Violence

I'm assuming that he takes "people" to mean those who have studied and understand the human psyche a great deal more than he does.
