A 14-year-old from Douglasville, Georgia is now in the custody of Douglas County Sheriff’s office after fatally stabbing his 77-year-old great grandmother and wounding his 55-year-old grandmother with a sword, according to multiple media reports. The incident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. on Monday at a home on Spring Ridge Drive in Douglasville. When the great grandmother told the teen to stop playing video games and do his chores, he apparently got a 3-foot sword and attacked the 77-year-old woman, who later died from multiple stab wounds. The 55-year-old woman managed to survive the attack by barricading herself in a room.
"Upon arrival, we discovered the body of a female in the front yard who had been stabbed to death," Chief Deputy Stan Copeland with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office told news station WSB. "He was in the doorway. He was actually utilizing a pellet rifle and shooting at deputies, but it was with a pellet rifle. He shot a couple of patrol car windows out and was threatening with a sword, so he was a little agitated."
Police managed to eventually subdue him and take him into custody. The teen was transported to the Douglas County jail to face charges of murder and aggravated assault. Police say this is the third time this year that they have responded to calls about the teen behaving violently.
"We've arrested him on two different occasions," Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller told CBS Atlanta. "Once in June where he had another sword, which is in evidence. This is not the same sword. He cut his grandmother on the foot with it that time."
Another time he attacked his mother with a toilet seat after she told him his father had died. The teen was sent to a mental institution for evaluation, but was later released.
The Douglas County District Attorney's office has said that it wants to try the teen as an adult.

I wouldnt say he did it because of videogames
I'd say he did it because he didnt want to do his chores. The fact that he was playing videogames when they were ordering him is inconsequential. He could have been watching a movie, listening to music, or even playing football outside with friends when his grandparents chimed in.
Not to mention his previous events where he lashed out.

Other thread commentators have and will most likely cover every other aspects. So I'll just mention the issue I have with the story which I'm afraid no one will raise. They want to try him as an adult. REALLY? After a psychiatric evaluation that said he was fine (he clearly wasn't), the fact he's 14 (why do you even HAVE ages guidelines if you're going to trample them that much) and the joint failure of the police and the family to act preemptively. So rather than finding a way of helping the teen, if he can be helped, you're going to try to punish him as hard as you can. 'gratz. Quick question: WHO'S THE MORON WHO LET HIM HAVE OR GAVE HIM A SWORD AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT?!!

I'll never understand the concept of putting a child with the grandparents after the actual parents screwed up. I mean they obviously didn't raise their own kids correctly, so why should they be capable of raising their grandkids well?
Secondly, how obvious do things have to be before red flags are raised? Two arrests within a couple months? One for assault with a weapon against an elderly woman? I hope the doctor is kicking himself. Or not. Whatever, as long as he gets paid, right?

Really? You think?
I'm sure the video game connection will be beaten to death. But she could have told him to stop doing anything and got the same result. Sounds like a very unbalanced individual to me considering he attacked his mother with a toilet seat just because she told him his father died. Why would you allow someone who has a history of violence to have another sword after they already cut you once? You've got to have some knowledge of what's going on in your house in some shape or form. If someone in your family cut you with a sword, you wouldn't be checking everything they bring into the house to make sure they have no more weapons? There's respecting a child's privacy and then there's just being a bleeding idiot.
