Financial analytics group Bundle has ranked the 100 largest U.S. cities by the amount of money spent on games through outlets like GameStop, EBGames, and Steam - using "anonymous spending data" provided by credit card companies and the U.S. government. So what was the #1 town when it came to spending cold-hard-cash on video games?
Surprisingly, the Long Island suburb Huntington, NY. Yes, Huntington, NY. Huntington, NY residents spent 4.08 times the national average. Another Long Island city, North Hempstead, ranked #2 with 2.32 times the national average. The rest of the top five cities were Laredo, TX (2.23 times); Chesapeake, VA (2.12 times); and Modesto, CA. (1.99 times).
To say that a town in Long Island would be my first guess would be a blatant lie. I would think New York City or Los Angeles would be top picks, but apparently people in those cities are emulating Don Draper instead of playing games..
