It looks like the online game Mythos is about to disappear from the European gaming landscape. MMORPG.com is reporting that MMO operator Frogster will discontinue operation of the game on October 27. The game launched in April but did not gain the kind of player support that the company had hoped. The company made the official announcement via the game's forums:
"MYTHOS enjoyed great popularity with the launch in April and the numerous registered users ensured a good start. The desired long-term success unfortunately did not follow. Under these circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the operation of MYTHOS.
For this reason, we will shut down the game servers and cease operation on 27/10/2011 at 12:00 CEST (11am UK).
Mythos will cease to exist in the EU on October 27, 2011."
Over the next few days players will get a number of goodies to make the end of the game more enjoyable including giving out all missing quest items by in-game messages (players will have to let them know what they need in the forums), a large battle alongside community managers for the very last time, and a Farewell Party on Wednesday 26/10/2011 from 16:00 CEST (3pm UK).
Finally, Frogster will give Mythos subscribers Runes of Magic vouchers if they have been active in the past 3 months (only accounts registered prior to this announcement will be considered). The vouchers are redeemable for mounts and diamonds. They will also be giving away some beta keys for their new title Eligium. Those who purchased a Mythos box copy will receive a Runes of Magic bundle with an equivalent value. These vouchers and other stuff will be sent via email after Mythos is officially shut down.
