Buried inside its first quarter fiscal year 2012 results, Microsoft revealed that it has shipped 57.6 million Xbox 360 units around the world to date. The company also revealed that for the quarter the ended on September 30, it managed to move 2.3 million units of its Xbox 360. Compared to last year, that's a 2.8 percent decrease. The good news for Microsoft is that the Xbox 360 has been the top-selling console in North America for the last seven months and revenue for the platform was up 7 percent thanks to sales on Xbox Live.
Overall, Microsoft had record first-quarter revenue of $17.37 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2011, a 7 percent increase from the same period a year ago. Operating income, net income, and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $7.20 billion, $5.74 billion, and $0.68 per share, which represented increases of 1 percent, 6 percent, and 10 percent, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.
