Simon Lane and Lewis Brindley, the duo that run the popular YouTube series Yogscast, claim that they deserve a portion of the credit for the success of Mojang's popular indie builder Minecraft.
Mojang's virtual world has managed to sell over three million copies despite being still being in beta. In an interview with Edge, Lane and Brindley tell the publication that they have played a major part in the game's success thanks to its popular Minecraft series on their YouTube channel, which receives around 80 million views every month.
"Typically the people who play games on YouTube do so because they're good at games and want to show off their skill or guide others to do better," Brindley tells us. "Minecraft is different to anything else out there, and it worked really well for us because it's a game that's evolving like nothing before. The entire game has had $0 spent on PR yet has sold 3.5 million copies - I think a large part of that is due to us."
"We are Minecraft's PR!," Lane adds. "I think we enjoy a symbiotic relationship with Mojang and have definitely contributed to each other's success. I'm very thankful we've done so well out of it."
The full interview with Lane and Brindley can be found in the new issue of Edge.

Wow is this out of context. This was said jokingly, with some little basis on reality. What's up GP, no real good stories?

Really, Yogscast, it was a BUNCH of different factors. I bought it after hearing about it from Joystiq and Kotaku. I did like how Creative played out and thus I seperated myself from 10 bucks to buy it (Mine's a pre beta purchase btw, like sometime before halloween of last year). Hell, to be fair, I haven't even heard of Yogscast until now.
