According to Xbox Live marketing boss Robin Burrowes, all entertainment will be interactive within the next five years. But his boldest claim is that Microsoft's Xbox Live service adds a new member every two seconds.
Xbox Live launched in 2002 with about 50,000 users on the first day, eventually reaching 35 million by the end of last year. The launch of Sky Player in Europe, Facebook and Twitter on Xbox Live in 2009 along with Modern Warfare 2, doubled the service's user base to 20 million from the previous year, and launch of Kinect in 2010 helped add another 15 million subscribers.
"We know already that users are resonating with the fact that the games console goes beyond its usual remit," Burrowes said.
Burrowes also claimed that over 75 percent of European console owners watch DVDs or Blu-ray movies on their consoles, while 72 percent download content. Around 42 percent of people use social networks, chat and e-mail to talk with contacts while watching a TV program or video.
