UK game industry charity GamesAid announced the results of its recent Gem Golf & Spa Day event for charity. According to the group, they managed to raise £62,607.56 this year. The event, which took place on June 30, invited members of the game industry to play a day of friendly golf tournaments or get spa treatments. All proceeds will be donated to GamesAid's chosen charities. This year’s take was also a 19 percent increase over the 2010 event.
"GamesAid would like to thank the team at Gem and their Gold Sponsors, EA, MCV, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo, THQ and Ubisoft - plus the Silver Sponsors Netgear & Nuance for an amazing event," said GamesAid chair Sarah Seaby.
"In these testing times, to increase the amount raised for GamesAid is simply incredible and we very much look forward to next year's event."
"After an exceptional support from the industry, the hard work from the Golf & Spa Day team and the people at Gem, we managed to smash last year's fundraising total by more than £10,000," said event organizer Richard Stickler. "It's going to be head to beat that in 2012 but I know the team – consisting of Louise Powell from Nintendo, alongside Keeley Munden and Emilie George from Gem – will do everything we can to make that happen."
Next year's Golf & Spa Day will take place on July 12 and will be held at The Grove in Hertfordshire.
