After first offering DLC early to customers and then being threatened with a class action lawsuit, EA has decided it will now honor its E3 promises to give Battlefield 3 customers a digital copy of Battlefield 1943. Last week during the holidays, the company said that the whole thing was just a big misunderstanding and that they would now give North American and European customers what they wanted in the first place. The company posted the following message on its support web site:
"There have been some misunderstandings around Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield 3. To address this we are making Battlefield 1943 available free of charge to owners of Battlefield 3 on the PS3 beginning this month.
Battlefield 1943 PlayStation 3 vouchers will be available on the following dates via the 1943redemption.battlefield.com portal:
•November 26th, 2011 for Battlefield 3 players on PlayStation Network Sony Europe.
•December 10th, 2011 for Battlefield 3 players on PlayStation Network Sony America.
•December 17th, 2011 for Battlefield 3 players on PlayStation Network Sony Asia and Sony Japan.
Please note: Players in Australia and New Zealand should use the PlayStation Network Sony Europe option when selecting a territory."
Those wishing to claim the free game will need to log in to EA's redemption portal (1943redemption.battlefield.com) using your Origin ID and request a download code for your region.
