The Sundance Film Festival's official film selections list was released today, and Indie Game: The Movie will be one of the many fine films to be screened and eligible for the World Cinema Documentary Competition. The documentary gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to make an indie game. It features Super Meat Boy creators Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, FEZ creator Phil Fish, and the Braid creator Jonathan Blow.
The film is the brainchild of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada natives James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot. The duo spent a year of following the aforementioned developers across North America. The film also features a soundtrack comes from Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP composer Jim Guthrie. But the most interesting aspect of the film is how its creators tapped into Kickstarter to fund the film; it took two campaigns on Kickstarter to raise the nearly $100,000 needed to make the film.
The 2012 Sundance Film Festival takes place January 19-29.
