The AbleGamers Foundation, a charity and advocacy group dedicated to finding and highlighting games and technology that enable disabled gamers to play games, has released its 2011 Holiday Shopping Guide For Disabled Gamers. This annual list is the compilation of the very best technology and devices available that are tailored for gamers with disabilities. The 2011 edition of the guide includes some annual favorites of the group, along with game controller technology, and more.
"Gamers with disabilities depend on technology to help enable the ability to play today's hottest games," the group said in announcing the guide today. "The technology and devices on this list aid people with a range of disabilities in a number of ways. Not only for the hard-core gamer, these devices assist children and their parents to find new and creative ways to have fun."
The AbleGamers staff put together this guide by consulting thousands of gamers and surveying hundreds of devices to find the best technology. Each item is tested in various laboratories around the country to determine the usefulness, quality, and durability of everything recommended, according to the group.
“With an estimated 33 million gamers with a disability in the United States, including myself, we thought it was time that we put together a shopping guide that focused on our unique needs,” said Mark Barlet, President of the AbleGamers Foundation. “I know that those families with special-needs gamers in their lives will find this a useful tool in this holiday season.”
