SUPABOY might just be the greatest gaming device ever made - because it allows you to play Super NES games on the go - but there's no doubt that it will run afoul of Nintendo's legal department at some point. The device, made by a company called Hyperkind, allows consumers to play old Super NES cartridges on the go. It has a 3.5 inch screen, but if you would rather play these games on the television, the device also allows you to do so through an AV plug. You can also plug two Super NES controllers into it if you want to (we assume you might if you were playing it on the TV). Finally it comes with a rechargeable battery so you don't have to worry about finding a power source.
One commenter at Amazon.com claims that he has tested Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island, Gradius 3, Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2, Super Mario All Stars & World, Sim City, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, Tetris & Dr. Mario, Tetris Attack, Super Mario RPG, F-Zero, and Star Fox cartridges with the system and they all worked fine.
The device is currently being sold here on Amazon.com for about $80.

Re: Going Portable with the Classics: SUPABOY
Reminds me of the Sega Nomad, except the Nomad was an official product.
Basically the only thing keeping this from being awesome is how hard to find/expensive SNES cartridges are these days.
Re: Going Portable with the Classics: SUPABOY
Nintendo needs to calm down if they are really worried about people buying this to play SNES games on. They probably wont, because lately they've had their legal department on speed dial, but you would have to be a pretty die-hard fan to buy this.

There is one game Nintendo hasn't put on the Wii Virtual Console and probably never will: Earthbound. The only way to play it is to find a used SNES cart or to use a ROM.
Re: Going Portable with the Classics: SUPABOY
This is one of the funny things about Nintendo. You would think with the $100+ price the carts go for on Amazon and ebay, they would release it on the Wii and capture some of that market. Sadly, they are ignorant and don't easily bend to market pressures.

They're all too happy to tell us what we want instead of listening to use when WE tell them.
Re: Going Portable with the Classics: SUPABOY
I'll pick up a portable emulator from thinkgeek, thanks.
Re: Going Portable with the Classics: SUPABOY
I also have a device which allows me to play many classic games on the go. It's called a Nintendo 3DS. (Or hasn't anyone else noticed that the majority of titles you'd want to play over the last few years have all been remakes and "original formula" genres?)

Re: Going Portable with the Classics: SUPABOY
Some might already have the original game cartridge and might just want to play that
Re: Going Portable with the Classics: SUPABOY
I see devices like these online all the time yet they are rarely mass produced or for sale, so I might have to get one of these.
Also, if clone consoles that do the same thing are perfectly legal, I don't see what's going to go wrong with this.
