Confirmed: GSC Game World Closing, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Canned

Update: 1c Ukraine’s Sergey Galenkin confirms that GSC Game World has officially closed - as reported by Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

"GSC is closed, a fact confirmed by all. The team is almost completely dissolved, the state has only a few people," wrote Galenkin on his blog.

He goes on the blame the cost of developing PC-only shooter for a European audience coupled with a failed deal for the console publishing rights as the main cause. Thanks to metroidprimegmr for the tip.

The big rumor of the day is that GSC Game World has closed and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been canned. To make matters worse, dueling tweets from members of GSC say that the company has closed... and the company hasn't closed. The rumor started at Ukrainian news site UkraNews, who reported that GSC had been shut down by owner Sergei Grigorovich. The closure was announced to employees earlier today, according to the report.

The "official twitter account of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise" tweeted a denial - which was then quickly removed, followed by a tweet from GSC’s Dmitri Bourkovski who said: "Not PR. GSC closed." That tweet was quickly deleted shortly thereafter as well. So is GSC Game World closing down and is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 canceled? No one knows - not even the people that work there, apparently. Hopefully an official statement from GSC will deliver the truth one way or the other...

Sad sad sad news. And even sadder if they confirm that they went under because they tried to develop a console version :(
