id Software Employees Let Go

January 10, 2012 -

Bethesda confirmed that Rage developer id Software has suffered an unspecified number of layoffs today.  That’s always a bummer and hopefully those affected are able to find gainful employment soon.

As far as we’re aware, this is the first major layoff id Software has seen.

“As part of its standard business practice, id regularly evaluates staffing to ensure it has a workforce that meets the needs of the studio,” said Bethesda in an official statement.  “As part of that process, some id employees were recently let go.”

id Software is still hiring and work on future titles continues as planned.

Re: id Software Employees Let Go

Goes to show piracy has little effect on whose employed or not.

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Let's renegotiate them.

Actually this isolated incident is not really evidence for or against any effects of piracy on the industry.

Re: id Software Employees Let Go

The game did well enough, was pirated and yet there are still layoffs.

Re: id Software Employees Let Go

That is generally how things work when a major project wraps up and they do not have another project with the same breakdown of needed skills (at the same location) lined up.

I am confused how this piece is even news, much less game politics news...
