Seven Publishers Join Origin

February 2, 2012

Electronic Arts announced that Remedy Entertainment, Focus Home Interactive, Iceberg Interactive, Strategy First, Macro Games, Selectsoft, and Legendo Entertainment have signed on to sell their games via the Origin digital distribution platform. Remedy's first title to be available on the platform will be Alan Wake.

“The momentum that we’ve achieved with Origin since launching in June has been incredible, buoyed by great games and great partners,” said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President of Origin at EA. “Our fast-growing user base demonstrates the interest from gamers across the world in fully-connected, 365-day digital game experiences. We’re committed to evolving and expanding Origin to help players get the absolute most out of their games, and we’re just getting started.”

Earlier this week EA revealed that, since its launch in June of 2011, Origin has gained 9.3 million registered users and earned more than $100 million in revenue. Electronic Arts also claims that almost 40 percent of Star Wars: The Old Republic units sold have been through Origin.

"buoyed by great games and great partners"  Uh huh.  Sure.  You keep thinking that.  Now I know who has been drinking the Kool-Aid.

I'm glad there are alternatives to Steam.  It makes sure Valve won't try and pull a fast one.  But Origin is EA and EA is known for putting out garbage.  More boats have now set sail for fail!  I currently want my games on Steam.  At the same time, I want the freedom to move my digital licenses to and from the other major vendors after I've linked my accounts.  Who cares where the digital license sits as long as someone got a piece of the action?

Who, who, and who?  Put your games on Steam, EA.

Re: Seven Publishers Join Origin

Honestly, you can't say "who" to Strategy First. They're kind of a big name :S

Re: Seven Publishers Join Origin

I've actually never heard of them. Haven't played any of their games either. Only one I've heard of is Remedy.

I'm glad Steam has "competition" too but EA is too full of themselves to admit they made a mistake leaving out a huge chunk of PC games by breaking it off with Steam.
