According to a report in the Independent, U.S.-based retailer GameStop has expressed interest in buying trouble UK retailer GAME's Iberian operation. The report makes no mention of GAME's UK operations, but points to its stores in Spain and Portugal. Both companies declined comment.
This follows a report by MCV last week citing anonymous sources who said that GameStop was interested in GAME's European operations, but did not want to buy the company's stores in Australia because it already has a thriving operation there with EB Games.
"It's widely known GameStop is looking at Europe," specifically UK and Spanish regions where GAME is market leader, publishing execs reportedly told the site.
If the report is true, many wonder where that leaves the company's 610 stores in the UK.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
