Stalker 2 Finds Spiritual Successor in Survarium

April 25, 2012 -

Stalker 2 might be dead, but it is certainly not forgotten by fans or the folks that were trying to create it. But there is a silver lining to this incredibly dark cloud: a new free-to-play online shooter will channel the spirit of that game and it will be developed by many ex-GSC Gameworld employees.

What remains of the Ukrainian studio today tweeted the following message: "Despite no official continuation of Stalker 2 it looks like the ideas and spirit will live on in the team's new game - Survarium."

Survarium is a free-to-play online shooter being developed at start-up Vostok Games. The new website for the recently launched company explains a bit more about how all this came to pass:

"Our company appeared in March 2012 in Kiev. Ten years earlier, when at GSC Game World we started developing the renowned S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series and continued working on it until December 2011 when the studio was unexpectedly shut down and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 project - frozen," reads a statement on the website. "We did not reach agreement with the rights owner regarding the use of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand, that's why we made the decision to move forward as an independent studio with a new project. That day became our starting point for Vostok Games."
