EA: Rock Band iOS Isn't Being Discontinued

May 3, 2012 -

Electronic Arts says that it is not shutting down or discontinuing Rock Band on iOS devices and calls a notice sent to customers as well as a FAQ entry "errors." Speaking to Polygon an EA spokesperson assured that publication that the iOS version of the Harmonix hit music game isn't going anywhere.

EA said that the pop-up message that the app sent to users was an oopsie. The message popped up when users opened the Rock Band iOS app. It warned users:

"Dear Rockers, On May 31, ROCK BAND will no longer be playable on your device. Thanks for rocking out with us!"

Electronic Arts issued a statement today saying that the message was an error and apologized for it.

"Rock Band for iOS will remain live – the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error," the company said in a statement. "We apologize for the confusion this caused. We're working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible."

Those users who have paid cold hard cash for the game on the App Store can breathe a sigh of relief. After all, $5 is $5.

Bored EA King (i.e. executive)

"Oh well, I suppose we can let the babies have their bottles. Fine we'll let them keep the thing they paid for...this time."

Sent in error. uh huh.

So why is the kill switch functionality even there?

I'm willing to blame the record labels if you are.

(Who to hate more - EA or the MPAA? Truly a dilemma for the ages.)
