CD Projekt RED announced that The Witcher series has managed to hit a major milestone: over 4 million copies sold to date. The numbers come from the collective worldwide sales of The Witcher for PC and Mac, and The Witcher 2 for PC and Xbox 360. The Witcher 2 will soon be available on Mac systems. The Witcher games on PC and Mac are DRM-free, which we'd like to believe was a contributing factor in the strong sales for the series...
"I’m still amazed with the result we have achieved with The Witcher franchise," said Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt RED studio. "Many gamers on many platforms have been drawn to the vivid and complex world we have created. In the gaming world summer means a lot of great, hot deals. So if you still don’t own the game look out for both retail and digital special offers. 'The Witcher' and 'The Witcher 2' are great, robust RPGs, that every true gamer should own."
On a related note, CD Projekt RED announced that The Witcher 2 will be available in Japan for the Xbox 360 August 23, and later this year the game will be released for Mac systems.
In May, the company announced plans to expand The Witcher series through a collaboration with game designer Mike Pondsmith. The new game will be set in The Cyberpunk universe. The new game will feature an "engrossing, absolutely non-linear storyline and will take players to a futuristic, hi-tech, but also decaying society."
