Google, Facebook Join The Internet Association

According to this BBC report Facebook, eBay, Google and Amazon have joined a new lobbying group that will push issues they deem important in Washington. The new lobbying group is called The Internet Association, and will open up shop in Washington D.C. in September. They will handle political and regulatory issues in the capital.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Google has already spent $5.4 million on lobbying in 2012 so far, while Facebook has spent an estimated $650,000. This new group hopes to educate lawmakers about the internet, according to its new president Michael Beckerman. Mr. Beckerman is a former adviser to the chairman of the House of Representatives Energy And Commerce Committee.

"We want to educate [lawmakers] about the impact of the internet in their congressional districts," he said.

Obviously this group will have more members, but we won't know who else is involved until the group makes an announcement in September. They will also reveal the issues that they will be fighting for in D.C. in September.
