A YouTube user named Fluffyquack has released a series of Resident Evil 6 videos that show locked content hidden on-disc, unlocked by modding the game. In one video he demonstrates a new "No Hope" difficulty mode, as well as locked melee attacks, and taunts and costumes for Resident Evil 6's multiplayer. A subsequent update from Eurogamer reveals that while the "No Hope" mode does indeed seem to be DLC that is on the retail disc, the other content is unlockable stuff. Speaking to Eurogamer, a Capcom rep admitted that the one piece of Resident Evil 6 DLC requires downloaded data and on-disc data to work, but did not get into specific details.
"We still have unannounced DLC for RE6 that will be revealed in the coming months and while virtually all such content will not be on the disc there will be one piece of content, that for technical reasons, requires the use of a combination of newly downloaded data and data that is included on the retail game disc," the spokesperson said.
We have not included any of the videos here because they may contain spoilers for the game, but if you are interested in watching them, you can check out Fluffyquack's YouTube channel and judge for yourselves.
Fans have long complained about the practice of including DLC on retail discs because they feel like if it is on a disc they have paid for at retail then it should be free. Capcom said earlier this year that it would change this process eventually but it appears that the policy is - for the time being - still in place...
