Tom Hall Launches Kickstarter for Worlds of Wander

February 4, 2013 -

Former id Software, 3D Realms and Ion Storm superstar Tom Hall has launched a Kickstarter for a new game and game creation environment called Worlds of Wander. The idea behind the project is to create an easy-to-use game creation environment for Apple devices, Android, Linux, Mac and Windows that allows creative types to make and share their own platformer games. The whole idea is inspired the very first game id Software made - Commander Keen.

While those who buy Worlds of Wander will get the simple-to-use tools to make their own games, the package will also include a game made by Tom Hall called Secret Spaceship Club.

You can learn more about the Kickstarter here. The video shows Worlds of Wander already running on various platforms. So far Hall's Kickstarter has managed to raise $4,614 of the $400,000 goal, with 25 more days to go.

Re: Tom Hall Launches Kickstarter for Worlds of Wander

So basicly yet another toolkit/engine to add to the pile of such systems already in existence.

This is why we end up with so much half-baked incompatible crap... while I admire their basic goal and drive, I really wish people would ban together behind some OSS project or something instead of this 'I am going to make my own from scratch!' approach.

This tends to be a recurring problem with programmers... when given the choice between building something new or making something old better, there is usually a pull for the former even if it means reinventing the wheel over and over and over.
