Electronic Arts announced that it will host the first-ever EA Hackathon at the EA headquarters in Redwood City, California on March 16. Teams will compete against each other for a chance to win a (what we assume will be) tasty and informative lunch with EA CTO Rajat Taneja, a selection of unnamed EA products, and $1,000 in cash for each participating team member of the winning team (of course).
EA describes the challenge as follows:
The event, "Escape from /dev/null," is a communal, web-based programming competition board game with a science fiction narrative.
If this sounds like something you'd like to get involved in, you can visit www.ea.com/hack for more information and instructions on how to apply.

It's to find out strong coders and offer them a job if they fit the profile. End of story.
