Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform Play, Will Offer Offline Play

February 26, 2013 -

Diablo 3 for the PS3 and PS4 will not feature cross-platform play but it will include an offline mode for PS3 and PS4 players. PC players cannot play the game without being connected to Battle.net - even when playing single-player. The clarification on cross-platform play was made by the game's community manager Vaeflare on the Battle.net forums.

"While we think cross-platform play would be awesome, there are currently no plans to allow connectivity between PlayStation Network and Battle.net (this is pretty standard for most games that have PC and console support)," said Blizzard's Community Manager. "As a result, the characters on your Battle.net account and PlayStation account will also remain separate."

On allowing Diablo 3 PC users to use a controller, Blizzard has no plans on doing that either:

"In terms of allowing an analog controller hookup for the PC, we don’t have any plans for that kind of support right now. Similarly, since Diablo III for console was designed with a controller in mind, the PlayStation version of Diablo III will not support USB mice or keyboards."

Both the PS3 and PS4 will allow four player co-op mode local multiplayer games. Players will be on the same screen instead of split onto four separate windows as well. This also means that single-player will likely not require a constant connection in order to play.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

What gets me Diablo 3 isn't a huge graphics whore who demands top performance. To be honest it looks like something that could be played of the PS2.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

Proof now held that the "always on" scheme was for DRM and only DRM not to "provide a better and more enjoyable service" or any of the other crap they force fed players awhile back.

And still the reason i do not own said game.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

I do, but I haven't touched it since single player lagged due to my connection, or since I was kicked out of a single player game when my connection went bad.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

No controller support on PC and no cross platform play? Then what's the damn point of the port? A PC that can run Diablo3 pretty much flawlessly* will cost less than a Playstation4. I figured at least controller support would come to PC because of this. And even more shocking is the lack of M+K support on PS4. How amazingly stupid and half-assed of Blizzard.

*Actually the PS4 will likely run it better without having to rely on Blizzard servers for basic functionality such as hits registering or items dropping.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

Im still wondering how much Sony paid Blizzard for this.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

I think this was more a behind the scenes thing between Actvisions Bobby Kotick and someone else he had dealings with at Temple.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

Meaning that autonomy Blizzard was promised is out the window.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

The question is will the PS3 version allow REAL MONEY auction house

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

Of course they will. The game was balanced on the assumption that you'd be using it.

Re: Diablo 3 for Consoles Will Not Include Cross-Platform ...

While I think that would be the case, a lack of ability to use the auction house would also be a big reason to not bother with BattleNet on the PS4.
